$300 on Co2 scrubber media

I refilled my Co2 scrubber today. In another 2 weeks I will refill again to keep ph at desired levels. I’m using 1 bag of soda lime a month which equivalents to $300 a year. Is this Absurd or common?

I turned my co2 scrubber into a recirculating co2 scrubber to help. The skim waste was leaking into co2 media reactor and destroying the media so I had to create a diy waste bin which I believe reduces efficiency of the reactor due to leaking air.

The consumption is greatly depending on the tanks and environmental conditions.
Get the bulk 5gal container; it is 16.5kg (about 36lbs) so you will save about 60% buying bulk.

Bulk is good. Another option is to not chase ph unless it is incredible low. Or see if running a line outside to skimmer helps at all. Or bump it with kalk.

i know that co2 media and kalkwasser are the same thing, So can the exhausted co2 absorbent media to be used in a reactor instead to tossing it out?

Another option is to look into an ERV system for your house like I did. I never have to buy co2 media again and ph stays higher then co2 media could ever get it. 8.4-8.55 solid

Bulk is the way to go. This 5 gallon jug lasts me over a year and keeps my pH at 8.4.

You can do a quick google or yahoo search and read a bunch about it. Here is just one site with some info. I will say that the Manufacturers of these devices do not mention much at all about PH because this is not intended for aquarium use it’s for households and the manufactures of them do not realize the benefits for aquariums or at least they don’t advertise it they only advertise it for cleaning the air which intern remove the CO2 raising ph.

I started drawing outside air and pH is now at 8.05 to 8.20 which I am fine with. Scrubber works great but I always worried I would draw in the media if something went wrong and Nuke the tank. I had floats and sensors all over but still worried me.

ERV is the best option but not an option for everyone

ERV may or may not be much of a benefit. I would do the indoor/outdoor cup test before all else. Certain climates are better geared toward ERV than others. On the other hand, CO2 scrubbers are extremely low maintenance, simple, and really don’t cost all that much, especially compared to everything else in this hobby. A 5 gallon container last me well over a year. I typically change out the media every 2-4 weeks. Only takes about 2 minutes. I keep a float switch on my skimmers collection cup and one inside my waste bin. Pretty fail safe imo.

I use a "prefilter" similar to what you do. I just have two of those BRS catridges in series. The first is empty and the second has the CO2 media. Zero air leakage. I don't get any skimmer sludge in the first canister just clear water. I use it to keep the media from getting saturated.
