You can make a scrubber for next to nothing. There are many ways to incorporate one into your existing setup. See my DIY thread here for some ideas. The only real tricks are to use the mesh roughened up and red and blue LED grow lights. They are inexpensive and algae love the light.
Haven't seen any of your cheap scrubber growth pics yet, in your thread

I am looking at Algae scrubbers. Has anyone had expierence with 302aquatics DAS line of scrubbers?
I’m looking at the DAS-3 for my 180 clown harem tank.
Thanks!

If you end up purchasing one of our units, you will need the CW-200. Any of our retailers have them in stock and can get it out to you rather quickly. If you have any questions about installation or maintenance, shoot us an email or pm me here!

hey Josh, what is the downside to oversizing a algae scrubber? im wandering now if i should have went with a cw200 for my 130g with 43g sump. I ended up getting a cw100 because im going to run it on my 40b till i get the 130 up.. now im wandering if i should have went with the cw200..

The downside is that it can over strip your water of nutrients. That will affect your corals as they like some level of nitrate and phosphate. Bigger isn’t always better when it comes to scrubbers. If your tank is FOWLR, then it doesn’t matter if you go bigger as fish don’t care if the water is too clean.

On reef tanks, we recommend customers use a smaller skimmer than recommended and use a properly sized scrubber. If they want to remove the skimmer completely, that’s the only time we might suggest going to a larger size than recommended but we also recommend they reach out to us and discuss sizing with us.

We don’t recommend removing the skimmer on FOWLR tanks ever as there isn’t anything in the tank to consume the dissolved solids. The scrubber only removes them once they have broken down into the nitrogen cycle.

They have a 30 week waiting list. Uggh
Hope that’s a typo, because I’ve never told anyone it’s a 30 (thirty) week wait. It’s about 3 weeks at this point, and that’s only because I have to move my work office (again) next week

No, not a typo.
I was talking with someone who said 30 weeks. If it is only 3 weeks, that is amazing!

Don't bother with 302 Aquatics. They are having some serious business and personal issues right now and a ton of people are requesting refunds. It's best to stay away or look for used models or the other vendors.

Be very careful with these metal-case lights. The cord going into the top, especially, is an electrocution waiting to happen as the seal leaks and/or the aluminum corrodes. When I was the first to use these in 2010 or so, they were not cheap, but now they are cheap enough ($5 including shipping from China) that it's easy to overlook safety.

I would agree with this in general, for just about any light fixture - you don't want it to be positioned with the cord in a drip-prone situation (i.e. you need to think "drip loop" on all electrical cords)

but now they are cheap enough...that it's easy to overlook safety.
That is a rather broad generalization, "some of these are cheap enough" would be more appropriate. JS.

I have a 302 on my 180G.

I replaced both lights and rebuilt/redesigned the tube that holds the screen. It now has an even sheet of water flowing down both sides at the necessary GPH. The way it came was terrible and noisy. After the upgrades it has been producing algae like crazy, more of a franken-scrubber than what 302 provides however...

If I were to ever get another scrubber instead of building, it would be from Tubro aquatics. I have only heard good things.

I have a 302 scrubber, that I’m having trouble with. Clogged holes and bald spots. Could you please share how you fixed your issues. I want to try to rig mine as well. Thanks.

Cut the holes into a slot and insert the screen into the slot. That should fix most of the issues. If you’re still getting hot spots after that, you might need to increase the flow.

Still have some more tuning to do to get some good growth but I have perfected the “even sheet of water and high gph” aspect of my scrubber. Took a 1/2 pipe, cut a bunch of holes clean through then put a 1” pipe over it with a slot. Works perfect

Do not buy from 302. Huge scammer. 20+ people out of hundreds to thousands of dollars each.

I hope you took this advice.

I was trying to choose between 302 aquatics and turbos. Ended up going with the turbo due to excellent reviews and just a gut feeling. Glad I did!

BUYER BEWARE 302 Has issues with no/poor service.
I have had my 302 for a little over a year and 2 of the 4 lights went out and the holes always clog. The seam also came loose on the acrylic box, so I had to reglue that as well. I bought the 4 light unit and think I need to mod it to get it to work right.
Is there a link to mod the 302 scrubbers for better performance, wish I would have bought a Floyd Turbo.

Just hooked mine up yesterday and couldn't be happier! Customer service is second to none. I had a question about the drain height and sent a message to Bud and he answered right away! The unit seems well built and well thought out! I'm happy I went with the turbos.
