I got this tank for free including with it a powerhead, lights, water test kit and stand. However it has no filtration. So, I was looking at my biocube one day and thought, thats it, this is what ill do. So, in the back of the tank I will make it like the biocube with a twist, im going to set it up with a refugium. So ill be starting this project in about three days. Got some more cleaning to do first though. Actually thinking about making a frag tank with it, anyone have any suggestions on what I would need for a good running frag tank? Thanks fellow reefers!

Interesting idea with making it an all in one. I hate the design of my all in one because it limits my equipment so much, but it is great for being on the top of my dresser so ill have to deal with it. Although it will cost more, I would recommend getting a hang on over flow from eshopps or synergy reef then go into eshopps new nano sump. More room for refugium, skimmer, reactors, or anything else. Just my $.02. As for frag tank. Not only could you use a section of a sump, if you go that route, but I've got a ten gallon with 2 koralia's and a hand on back filter running phosgaurd and carbon. It really can be that simple IMO.

Thanks nanoreef, yeah my biocube has very limited space in the back. I meant to put this in the post earlier but slipped my mind, the refugium in the back is going to be six inches from the back glass. Im going to be sure to leave plenty of room for add on's. Although a sump would be a bad idea, its just the stand wont allow me to fit anything to big inside it unfortunately.

Oh I see. couldn't tell from picture that stand size, sorry. Sounds like you have a good plan. Put of curiosity, with a 6in refugium width, how wide will the display portion actually be?

The tank display front to back is only 18 inches, so it will leave me 12 inches which ill be fine with. Top to bottom is 20 inches. The refugium ill put in the back will also be glass so it will be see through. I just want to see everything ive done working. I was going to make it black but decided against it.

Anyone have suggestions on anything that would be good for a frag tank?

Or beneficial for a frag tank

Building the back today at some point

ready to put into tank

If you're going to make it see through refugium , I would suggest you paint the back wall of the tank and also paint the sides of the insert , so that you don't see the equipment and only have a window into the refugium.

Good idea. I was going to paint the back and the sides if the tank. Didnt think about the equipment windows.

Don't quote me on it but I think krylon fusion would work for in tank application onto acrylic , I know I used it for the outside of my acrylic tank

Ill have to check on this. Im sure it will be fine once cured

sealed in and letting dry and fully cure, then, some sand and water

Kinda want to just sell this tank. Has light and stand and powerhead. No water pump though. Hooked my biocube pump up and it worked great. Ill ask 75 on craigslist and see what happens
