I picked up a FREE brand new 55 gallon tank with LED lights and heater and am trying to see how to best utilize this for my reef. My current system is in my garage (so space is not an issue) and consists of a 65dt with a 20g frag tank plumbed into the right side. I am thinking of putting a couple of eggcrate partitions into the 55g and placing it to the left of my dt. I could then get a overflow box to drain into it. I have a pump that I could pump water back to the display with, and loading the 55 with a lot of Chaeto. Does this seem like a good idea? My only cost would be the overflow box. I currently don't run a skimmer although I have 3 of them in storage. Any thoughts??
Cheers!
Sounds like a good idea to me. I'm a firm believer that if you're going to have a fuge at all, it should be a pretty large one for volume. Just be sure you've got plenty of light for it.
