32 Gal Biocube Livestock list

Hi all! Not "new" to reef tanks but still a noob. I had a 13.5 fluval for 6-7 months before I needed to break it down to make room for my newborn. She is about 6 months old now and my feet are under me so, I started up a 32 gallon Biocube recently and finishing a fishless dr. tims cycle right now. I was hoping to get your thoughts on my livestock list? This isn't completely set in stone obviously. I am open to suggestions and hearing your experiences.

Corals

• GSP Island
• 2 Hammers
• 1 Frogspawn
• Handful of mushrooms?
• Galaxea (on the side wall)
• Beginner SPS (green slime & jason fox enchanted forest Birdsnest?)
• Duncan?

Inverts

• Pistol shrimp
• Pincushion or tuxedo urchin
• Basic CUC (snails and hermits)
• Conch?

Fish

• Green mandarin dragonet (my dream fish)
• Paired basic Ocellaris clowns
• Blue-spot goby or other that pairs with pistol shrimp
• Longnose hawk?

Your list looks pretty good overall! I don’t know too much about the coral side, but I’ll try to answer my best for the fish/invert side of things.

1. The invert list looks good, and I love conches. It would definitely be a cool addition!

2. I love clowns, and a goby/shrimp combo is amazing to observe! I definitely like these options!

3. I’m sure you’ve already heard this, but I would add the Dragonet last, so it doesn’t starve. Otherwise, it will be okay.

4. Hawkfish are generally not great with shrimp and other inverts, so I would probably not take my chances with one. Instead, maybe a wrasse?

The conch idea stemmed from seeing that one little eye. I always thought it looked cool.

I did plan on adding the Dragonet after i added a cheto reactor to the back and have a breeding pod colony.

I was hoping that the hawkfish would be okay since it was going to be a longnose but that's fine. any recommendations on wrasses?

Personally i would stay away from the 6 line as I have tried a couple and are always bullies.
Stay way from cleaner wrasses as well, they need tons of clients to visit and i have had a couple not make it from not wanting to eat prepared foods.
As far as pistol shrimp and hawk fish. Get the biggest shrimp and the smallest hawk and I have had good out comes. I even have a big skunk cleaner shrimp that eats well and cleans everyone. Other than the hawk that I have seen so far. (Falco Hawk)

Possum wrasse or pink streaked wrasse. Do your self a favor and skip the clownfish...

I mean…the Hawkfish MIGHT be okay, depending on the specific one. Like @WaterWerks said, it would be a good idea to get a big shrimp and a small Hawkfish.

As for Wrasse, I would also recommend a Possum or a Pink Streaked. Also you could maybe do a sixline or a fourline, but those can be aggressive.

coolest fish I found for my 14 bio... was a barnacle blenny! he's lightning fast...and hangs out in shells and holes in rockwork, just his little face poking out.

Absolutely no problem with a mandarin fish(only one). Just make sure to have porous real coral rocks and seed it with copepods about 2-3 months before getting the mandarin. In fact if there’s enough pods and small pink flatworms, you never need to feed the psychedelic green spotted mandarin.

Sixline will eventually try to kill any goby or mandarin ie gouge out their eyes. Anyway there won’t be enough copepods in the 32 biocube for both sixline and mandarin. A 2-3 inch flame hawkish will fit in as well.
The tank is good for a max of 3 to 4 smallish fish while being low maintenance. 6 fish is really the max and it becomes a high maintenance ie frequent water changes, good skimmer etc
