320 Gallon SPS Build

Hey Thanks. Yes I burn through 16OZ bag of Pickling lime a month and have a steady effluent stream for the CARX just to keep my alk between 7 & 8. Furthermore the Kalk keeps the PH spot on and minimizes the nightly swing.

Just curious, are you running it through top off or in a kalk reactor?

Curious in another year when the demand goes up what are u going to do for cal and alk?

I have the SRO 5000 CaRX that is rated for 1000 gallons. It has 50 lbs of media in it so I doubt I will top out. The onlything I can imagine is that I can top out what can be pushed through a 1/4 water line. If I do top that out I will add another bulkhead and 1/4 quick connect for more out. In short I don't think I will top out with my CARX.

That makes sense. Sounds like a monster calcium reactor. Curious why u choose calrx over two part? I remember reading where u said u went to calrx and never looked back.

I did 3 part on the 90 frag tank. I had it on dosing pumps and it for me was still a pain. I also noticed that the calc seem to precipitate often. While it was great for control CARX is hands off. Secondarily can you imagine the cost for bulk materials for this tanks demand. I was going to use salinity buckets but think I calculated my break even with a carx less than a year. Furthermore the most amazing tanks of the world have reactors.

Very true, I can't imagine how much three part solution that u would need. I bet it would cost a small coin though.

Lol no joke, I showed the pictures of your tank to my wife and she just sat there and starred at it. First time she has ever just starred at tank pictures. Needless to say I hope my tank looks like your one day.

How do you like the apollo leds? I am thinking about doing those on my 5 foot 150 gallon and you seem like you got good growth lol. I did not read through everything but did you ever do a par reading for the tank?

There was another forum where the subject was to post pics with Blues on only. I liked the way they turned out so this will be my may update. These pics are with LED Blue at 75% and Magenta/Blue stunner strips on.

Made a few changes to the system and modified my bio-pellet reactor to a recirculating reactor, standardized on 8 evergrow and 4 Apollo fixtures and added a toggle switch interface to control apex virtual outlets

. Old which tumbled just fine but not a way to adjust flow stripping too many nutrients:

New recirculation mod with gate valve water adjustment:

This is my Toggle switch interface to the apex. From right to left 1. Turns off pump 2. puts tank in water change mode 3. Turns on waterchange pump from water storage system. 4. turns on watherchange system heater. 5. turns the water change drain pump. 6. turns off all flow.

New light layout: 320 Gallon 8ft tank
8 EveryGrow Value Fixtures
4 Apollo G2 Fixtures

I am getting 600 par at the sandbed with everything turned up to 100%

That's amazing. Something for my tank to dream about for sure!

What an amazing tank! And you've done it right! Great example for all of us. Lots of research and patience beforehand and look at the results!!!

My Sept 2013 update will document my reconstruction effort after this summer crash. During June/ and beginning July I had an unknown issue with my Acro’s, Stylo’s and Birdsnest would STN and eventually RTN this may or may not be related to a HVAC issue I had during that time. In August I did a full tank Anti-Biotic treatment, added UV and removed my Bio-Pellet Reactor. These measures stopped whatever was happening to the system. During that time I took several back up frags and evacuated to a separate system.

The below pictures represent the re-implementation of the backup frags and highlight the robust renewed growth. The goal is to rebuilding the reef better than before with better colors and more unique Acros.
