I’d like some size and brand recommendations for a UV sterilizer for my 32g AIO.

Main purpose is for protozoan mitigation and I don’t mind going overkill if needed. I already plan to mount it in my cabinet and and add an additional pump in one of my rear chambers.

TIA!

I'm here to tag along. I'm running 200l which is near the 32g size. I have never been able to find a UV sterilizer that seemed like it would be effective but not $400. It is a bulb with a tiny pump.

I hear ya. I honestly don’t believe the small ones would be sufficient for protozoan mitigation so that leaves me with a $400 option lol. Which is fine. I’d rather spend the money and it actually have a chance to work. I like IceCap’s 27 watt price point. I just don’t see much in regards to reviews on that one VS a Pentair or Aqua Ultraviolet.

I've been using the Aqua UV Advantage 2000 Barb-Barb on my RSR 170 for a year and a half (or more). Dealt with my dinos as long as a kept flow up and I haven't had any diseases (doesn't mean it worked of course....may just have never had any). Changed the bulb out recently, which was eazy-peazy and still doing the job. BRS doesn't carry the barb-barb only the over top in the Advantage model. I much prefer the barb-barb model.

Any of the top brands should be fine...AquaUV, Pentair and LifeGard Aquatics has a new model line that looks very nice. For your size tank...15 watt should do nicely but you can get away with less. You're shooting for north of 90,000 uw/cm2 and some say 180000 uw/cm2 exposure is better. You can always use a dc pump or an outlet valve on an AC pump and control the flow rate (exposure).

It is a bit harder to get the higher flows needed for algae/dinos (8x tank turnover) with pulling from AIO filter area, but one, you're not wanting it for algae and second, you got what you got and I'm a firm believer in a some is better than nothing. Especially if you start before you have outbreak.

Good luck!

I'm running one of these on my reefer 170 which is around 40 gallon total. I'm rumning it for water clarity which working but I can't comment on its effectiveness at protozoan mitigation. They make a hob version also. Buy from Amazon and if it doesn't work return it. Gotta love free no hassle returns right? It gets decent reviews
Late to the party as ussual :angry-face:

Updated my response with correct vendor. I purchased mine from Premium Aquatics so I'll put a plug in for them here. Just looked and that model is on sale right now. Always like supporting smaller businesses especially when local and cheaper. Used them for years (not exclusively - great service).

The best ones everyone is mentioning is between 200 and 300. There are some 4th July sales goi ng on that you may want to take advantage of. Bulkreef supply has several from 15watt and above
