Okay down sized back in May to a Solana tank. Added a chinese LED systems that is somewhat decent. Par numbers range from 760 at 1" under water down to 252 at sandbed 23" below the light at 50% power. This in the center of the light. Left and right drop off pretty dramtically. There is not a huge increase in PAR at 100%. This unit does not have optics. And I know that PAR are not accurate on LEDs, so I'm just using these numbers as a reference.
Okay, I love the shimmer and the pop of the greens and oranges. Blues are washed out. All my acans have turned orange. No longer red. The reds in my brains have now faded and are just blah. But most everything is doing okay including a few SPS that are in the tank.
I spent the weekend looking at various LED setups at LFS, and although there is a lot of pop and corals are growing, there just seems to be something missing that I'm use to seeing running MH and T5 in the past. The display tanks that I saw either used Ecotech or AI units. So I saw a wide variety of setups.
But is it me or am I missing something with LEDs.
Not sure if I'm using the right setup or not. Can't afford the Ecotech Radion, Al Vega's look promising, Kessil A350 is interesting but thinking about going to a ATI T5 unit.
What do you guys think?
