Well, I am normally on reef central but I thought, since I like to meet more people from different sites, that I'd join here and share with you guys my mixed reef! I am a college student doing what I can that has a passion for reef tanks. Hope that you guys enjoy my tank and I will update this thread with all changes and things I add. I will start with how it currently is!

Nice pictures and I like your taste in corals. After a lot of work pruning GSP out of 2 client's tanks lately I would like to suggest you think about the long term impact of that one. Compared to your other corals it is going to spread like a weed.

Looking good! Can you tell us a little more about the setup?

OMG! I'm so sorry. I totally forgot about that lol.

Tank: 35 gallon cube 20x20x20 with a 10 gallon sump. I have a sump/refugium: 1st chamber is drain/tunze 9002 skimmer, 2nd is Chaeto macro algae and some LR, 3rd return pump (mag 7) and phosban reactor pump.

It is funny you say that cause it doesnt grow at all! lol I want it to cover the back overflow.

If you have very little room in your sump, it is a great, cheap skimmer. I use it on my 20g+10g sump and get great skimmate all day. However, if you have a little extra room in the sump and a little more to spend, go for something with a side-mounted pump so you get those few extra inches of vertical bubble travel. On nano sized skimmers, every inch of bubble column height helps significantly and will make keeping it dialed in for long periods of time much easier.

For me, the NAC 3.5+ is the only skimmer that fits in my sump along with a filter sock - otherwise I would have went with a skimmer that had a side-mounted pump and taller body.

So you think the 3.5 would be good? I think it would do fine!

Nice tank! I have a 36g tank, also with a 10g sump. I also have a Mag for a return pump but I use the 9.5 as mine goes thru a chiller and an UV. I like that size tank, big enough to have some nice corals but small enough to keep WCs manageable. LOL I see you have some SPS, do you dose a lot?

No because my corals really aren't big enough to be sucking down params. My params like never change. But I do dose alkalinity ever few days, that's about it

Looks awesome! Glad to have you posting here now stay a while! ;)

Great beginnings.

I could only wish to keep nitrates at 4-5. lol

looks nice I think I want to try setting one up..the nice thing is I can make a brute can of RoDi water add the salt and just do weekly water changes . Is a skimmer really needed at this point? What skimmer is choice when setting up a nano reef?
