Hoping to buy my LR and sand next week. I've used google drawings to make a design of what I'd love for it to look like. I've also included a key so that you guys know what I mean. I made a layout of the filter and flow rates and then I added macroalgae, then live rock. I used to have a little algae bed in my reef, but my pistol shrimp ate it. It was really cool though, the fish would kinda hang out in there and hide when they wanted to, it would look great with a firefish and it would really boost my surface area for pods. The overflow is that little black circle in the left side btw.
Here's what I'm thinking for coral placement:
- Upper Left (None, only algae)
- Upper Right (zoas and leather mix) (If I ever add any, this is where I'll put SPS)
- Lower Right (LPS corals)
- Lower Left (mushrooms and ricordeas [lots])
- Mid Left (LPS on some rocks, fast growing invasive corals like Xenia on others)
- Middle (LPS and zoas)
- Mid Right Rocks (LPS and zoas)
- Mid Right Sandbed (Feather dusters, if I get more than 5 it will look awesome)
I can always reclaim parts of my algaebed if I need too as well, I'll have to keep it trimmed (which will be a huge pain), but it'll be worth it for the look and copepods, maybe now I can have a mandarin or starry blenny. The tank is pretty shallow btw, so nothing will huge. But should I change the flow at all, or coral placement? What do you guys think?
P.S. I used google drawings (not the best, but its free)
P.S. #2 In the key I list the middle ground (the one in the middle) as high ground, disregard that.
