the stuff is beyond fascinating and dangerous. The safety chem signs about man with a chemical burn hand were written specifically for it, yet they sell it otc as plain as day. If one could liquefy a pit viper yet still keep it alive and hungry, that's 35 heh

But it does neat stuff beyond mowing algae and reacting in regrettable ways with living materials, dumped in a years old change water cleaning bucket with the brown scum bottom it reacts strongly, loudly, w foam encore

And in a cup, glass or plastic bag, nothing. It was neat to find organic components proven by reaction sequence

So I thought, the null might claim the calcium carbonate was reacting with the oxidation, not sure how that works chemically. I've been soaking an old caulastrea skeleton in thirty five for half an hour, with one percent initial fizz, potentially old jerky tissue, and no skeletal weakening per the press of my thumbnail calibrated hydraulics compression testing. I take all this to mean the bucket for sure has organics and or peroxidase bacteria which is feeding on something, and that I'd really like to know why calcium carbonate doesn't react with that much oxidizer to weaken matrix etc. where peroxide thirty five reacts, it's a buzzsaw of doom. Where organics are not, it seems innocuous but not to everything, one drop ruins Formica so not all hard surfaces are immune. I also take away that Formica must have an organic component is that the case

Thirty five appears to be an amazing handy useful dangerous favorite reef chem, it can be used as a bioindicator it seems based on reactions around the house. Heckuva drain cleaner.
 
Calcium carbonate does not react with hydrogen peroxide because both calcium ion (Ca++) and carbonate (CO3--) are essentially already fully oxidized. :)
 
And just one other tune-up detail: what's the noxious gas that comes off interactions with that strong h202 and organic detritus/really foams

My guess would be vaporized peroxide even still wafting up, with oxygen and small amounts of methane and sulfur smell + VOCs. Co2?

Is the gas from detritus reaction poisonous?
 
The reaction of hydrogen peroxide with manny organic materials produces O2. That is likely the main bubbling, and it likely sweeps along other gases with it, including some peroxide.
