I am building the frame for my stand. It's for a 75 gallon that is 48.5" x 18.5" x 21 1/8". I cut all the wood peices so the stand would measure 49" x 19" x 35" tall. Most aquarium stands I found seemed a bit short at 30" so I added 5" which makes it the same height as my countertops. But now I am second guessing myself and worried it might be too top heavy. I think I will be ok but wanted to get some opinions. I am also putting a 20 gallon sump and some sort of top off system inside as well.

Here are the plans I am using for the frame.

Height isn't a problem as long as it is easy to get around the tank. I'm 6'8" - I can't imagine a tank stand less than 36"

Lol. I measured my armpit to the ground as reference when coming up with my measurements. Putin the tank on my counter had a much nicer viewing angle so I after determining I could still reach the bottom even if I need a small stool went on with 35". Thanks

I have my 90 gal. sitting on a stand that I built that is 37 in. tall. Even tho im only 5 ft. 8 in tall, I enjoy the viewing height & yes I have to stand on something to work on my tank....lol. Actually now I really wish I had made it taller!

Mine is at 40" as well. Works great for standing and sitting since mine is a room divider.

I am thinking I will be going with a low stand in my next build. When I say low I am talking 24-30" high. I see 2 benefits one I can get better access to the tank without a ladder and two sitting back in a chair and being able to view the entire height of the tank including the bottom is relaxing.

I build all my stands at least 36". At that height I can easily view it sitting or standing.
I do always lag the stand into the wall studs.

My 120 sat on 44" stand..

Our 150g main tank is at 42" tall, and love the height cuz we don't have to been over to look at it.

Since your tank is not so tall it should be fine. I have a 36" tank on top of a 36" stand. Talk about PITA for maintenance. I need a step ladder to get my grabber tool to the bottom and even that's a chore and I'm 6'1 myself and it's still difficult. If you are really worried about top heavy maybe make the stand with more depth then the tank. You'd be adding a shelf around the base of the tank which is not such a bad idea when you think about it. Then you have a built in spot of supplies while water testing, feeding fish, drinking a beer, etc.

My duty stand is 30" and it's way too short, good thing it's only for a 30 gallon, next time I'm going at least 40:)
