Top Fin 36 Gallon Bowfront Petsmart

I bought this tank tonight. I really liked the size of it for the area. I decided on it instead of the 40B.

After looking at it, and driving home thinking about it ... I had a thought. Is this tank secure with out the lid on it?

The tank itself is trimless on the top. It has the lid that wraps over the top. Has anyone used this set up?

I'd also love to see some pics of those that have used it, if it's good for ideas!

Thanks! I think I'd rather have someone hand me a set up ... and go for it rather than piecing it together again! I think I've found this much harder than planning out my biocubes!

Congrats on the new tank! You should be using it without the lid, the tank's silicone is plenty strong to hold it together. The rimless look is really nice! Are you planning on drilling the tank for a sump?

This is great news! I don't plan on drilling it. I was thinking about running a couple Aqua Clears, 1 with just marine pure in it and the other with any media that I might want. I was thinking that if I ended up needing a sump, looking at how to do a "display" sump to show off the cool things in the refugium, and I've always wanted to add a mangrove. So ... I would do a side setup. I just have to research how I could hide the tubes etc!

With that being said, I just found a 46 bowfront ... with everything about 2 hours from here. It has a canister filter and everything. I wanted a 46 but I couldn't find one. I almost bought a 65 yesterday, but I am so short it would be hard for me to clean it. If I get there and decide not, I waste 4 hours ... but I'll know!

I am thinking very seriously about going and taking a look at it. I won't take my 36 back unless I change my mind and I have someone interested! A friend and I are upgrading at the same time. The perk is, we share and swap!

I want to have everything so I can build my new tank on Saturday!

Awesome! That one is a beautiful setup! A little cheaply made I heard but it does the trick. I have a very similar tank made by aqueon that I use for my Mbuna cichlids and it’s a beautiful tank with great dimensions! I almost got the top fin bowfront for my first SW tank but went with the fluval 13.5. Congrats on the new tank!!
It may be FW but maybe the rockwork can give some ideas:

That tank does look nice!! I've never had cichlids but have friends that do. Gorgeous fish also!

I have one of the Fluvals, and we absolutely love it! Looks incredible. I don't have pics of that one.

I am thinking about setting it up as a freshwater for our little one to get her into the hobby. Would love to hear your feedback

I have one of those tanks and it’s a lid you can remove and not really a brace. I removed mine and no problems.

Mine hasn’t given me any problems in the years I’ve had it. Pretty easy tank for maintenance, and a lot larger than it looks.
