Getting ready to build the stanf for my new setup. My current stand now is only 30” planning on doing a 38” and my tank is 21”h. I wonder if its too high

Too high in what sense? Tip over? Or just ascetic?

If for tip over, what are the dimensions of your tank? Are you in earthquake prone area?

Astetically speaking. Its a 60x30x21” rimless. Im thinking i might have issue reaching the bottom of the tank.

My current stand is 38”..... New one on way with new tank is 33”. For standing viewing I suppose taller is better but I wanted lower for better view from my viewing chair. Also easier to reach into BUT still high enough that working under in sump will not be too tight.

My other concerns is the lighting, might be too bright for the eyes if it goes above 5’

I just replaced a 120 in wall tank with a 200 gallon tank and decided to raise my stand height to 40” for being able to view everything without bending over. I love it. I keep a couple of stackable aerobic steppers handy to reach in the top they are light weight and easy to move around. Certainly not as convenient to work on the tank but was worth the trade off for me.

I have a 60 inch tank, 21 inches high, and my stand is at 38 1/2 inches high.....not a problem and I like that height. Also gives you a bit more head room below the tank.

I went with a taller stand with one of my setups and liked it higher.
To reach the bottom of tank I used a 2-step ladder to help with the reach.

Someone mentioned lights as a concern, I had metal halides and built a canopy to cover front and sides because it was too bright for the room and looking at tank.

i guess i can weigh in too: my tank is 38" off the ground on one side and 40" off the ground on the other side. Personally i like the 40" side because it puts my face more in the upper half of the 30" tall tank. I'm just shy of 6'. Shorter people prefer the shorter side because it puts their face a bit higher than the lower side.

My stands are 42" high and the tanks are 24" high. Puts everything at eye level for just about everyone. I'm 6'1" and definitely need to get on something to reach the bottom of the tank, but that's rare.
I have ample room to put whatever skimmer etc under the tank with no worries about room.
Glad I made them as tall as I did and wouldn't have it any other way.

My setup is a peninsula rimless with t5 no canopy. My skimmer is external and 34” tall so would be nice to fit under the tank

I would say all depends on height of tank. My current tank is 24” and stand is 40”. But if tank was 30” or even 36” tall I’d make the stand shorter.
