3D printed builds - lets inspire others

It took a ton of time to make a square to fit into a eggcrate square? Test tanks?

I agree with you overall, but I don’t quite follow how it could take more than 2 minutes.

Different types of egg crate, locking design so it holds (looks different than the one pictured), sinks, doesnt get build up around from flow issues. Not saying this specific design took a ton of time, but time vested to make sure it works before i sold them to 3 LFS's with 4 more waiting in queue right now...

A lot more time, like significantly different went into the curve 7 parts and those got shared as soon as i could. Some things are worth sharing the picture to inspire folks and have them create their own, and some are worth just sharing the file so folks can just hit print. I guess part of it is vested interest. To your point, someone familiar with the process can look at it and design in minutes and share. Thats not what I am doing with this one, yet.
 
In Fusion 360 you can go under insert and there is a option of McMasters-Carr. Clicking that opens their online catalog. You can find the part you are looking for click on details and somewhere on the details page you will see a download drawing drop down box, I believe I use the SAT file type.. sorry trying to do this based off memory, I am traveling and my PC is home.

McMasters-Carr is great.

I also use Fastenal for a lot of parts since they have 3D models for almost everything they carry.

3D Content Central is also another great site with a good amount of suppliers and hard to find models.

I edited my post to make what I was trying to say more clear. I felt like you were exaggerating the difficulty of designing simple shapes. I didn’t know there was a locking mechanism— just saw the post on page 1. It’s a good design. Using PETG, yeah?

I didnt take it personal, you are actually on the list of people i think it would be cool to meet and have a beer with. You have a lot of knowledge on things i would like to learn more about. By no means do i want to look like I/We are not playing nice, just made a business decision on a couple of parts that we are not releasing yet.

As far as material... mostly PETg, mainly for the stores and depending on the conversation I have with the customers. We have some printed in PLA and are going to a show at the end of the month with PLA in use (selling PETg). As shared on other pages, PLA is completely reef safe and the only real concern is on areas of temp, such as the heater bracket, but with the misinformation being so widely believed we use PETg as the material for in water applications.

I agree with you overall, but I don’t quite follow how it could take more than 2 minutes. Even if you don’t have a caliper, internal dimensions of eggcrate are commonly available.

Draw a square. Extrude it to the height you want. Draw a smaller square. Extrude it.

I only bring this up because it feels like you are exaggerating the difficulty of modeling, which can be discouraging to people.

Agreed. I have things I am not going to release because they actually did take quite a bit of time to develop. I will release them in about two months but they will be expressly for personal use only. But, for simple stuff, like my son's led shelf bracket thingy, I am posting it tonight.

It works very well.
 
Heater brackets in PLA suck. They work for about 2 or 3 weeks then turn brittle.

Redid on in PETG for the nano, works great so far.

Mine didnt turn brittle but instead lost their shape. Everything else in PLA is going great.

Same here. Well on the sharing part, the bracket no LOL. I will see if i can find you so i can follow along :D
 
Unfortunately that is one of the few items we released to market so I cannot share that at the moment. I will keep you posted though if things change. We currently share a lot of our designs on thing a verse :D



I saw a good answer above, but for additional info: It is a library dedicated from their site that sells a lot of parts for things like nuts and bolts. I used to order through them to stock an entire warehouse back in the day. Thankfully this library allows all of us to pull in the design and print it so we can make useful parts without paying for metal or shipping :D

PLA deforms at much lower temp than ABS or PETG, so not ideal for use with heater.
In a Car message board I read, they do not recommend using PLA for anything that stays in the car, as it will melt in the summer heat.
 
Maxspect Gyre Pump XF330 and XF350

I saw that these new pumps have a flow deflector built into them that makes the flow go a certain direction out of the cage. can anyone build one of these for an icecap 3k gyre? or does anyone know if they are available somewhere

So great news over all on this. I just got off the phone with my business partner and we are going to say "screw it" and just upload all the files as we complete them. Once they are up, i will share the link. So we already have everything posted for the Curve 7, we will share our power supply brackets and legs in the next 48 hours. The ones above this post look great so this way you all will have options. More to follow and thank you dantimdad for the challenge. I stand by my previous points but love both the R2R community and the principals the printing community is founded on. So we decided to take the risk and share for others to hopefully enjoy.

When I have a more elaborate design that I am selling and someone asks for the file, I sometimes will ask what printer they have, and then slice it and send them the gcode. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s better than nothing.

ender 3 printer goes for $182 on ebay. more expensive on amazon prime due to easy return.
If cost is a concern, wait for eBay 15% off sale. they just had one yesterday, and usually occurs once a month, it applies to anything in your cart, so add a spool or two of filament while you can get the discount. So that $182 will become $155. That's how I got my ender 3.
you then shop around for filament. availability and price range varies, but one spool can go a long way once you get the hang of printing.
so you can get your feet wet for under $200. Us reefers blow away more money on more useless stuff than a 3D printer. So I say anyone can get into this.

difficulty? if your skill level is higher than plugging in an outlet and can follow instructions, then you can do it. :)
