For a tank 3 feet wide, would an 8 bulb T5 be enough? It would be ATI fixture, it's 17.5 inches wide, which is roughly half of 36, is this not enough? 72Lx36Wx28H if your wondering. Will I get decent par?

I would maybe suggest two fixtures in line with each other depending on the corals you wish to have.

An 8x80 watt ati sunpower would be adequate if you mount it 4-6” over the water
I think that's too close to the water to get enough spread for a 3' wide tank from a 17" fixture.

OP, I think you'll get great PAR under the fixture. I suspect you'll get some drop off at the ends.

What are you going to keep? If low or medium light stuff, then probably fine. If you want to keep really high light stuff, then look for a 10 or 12 bulb fixture - although you most see these in Europe. ...or a pair of 6 bulb.
