Picked this guy up, floated him for 2 hours and was about to cut the bag and noticed that he was vomiting some mucus and was chocking on it. I hurriedly took him out and put him in a QT but he didn't make it... I'm so ****** about it... but I'm wondering if anyone have seen or hear of something like this before.

Was it a clear mucus? Wrasse will produce a substance to keep predators from finding them when they sleep or when they are really stressed.

Yep, normal. They do that every night or when they are stressed. They puke out a cocoon web of mucus. That would not have killed him.

Maybe you need to find a better lfs. That fish was sick before you bought him. Stressed out in my opinion.

Floated in the bag for 2 hours? Why?..Drip acclimation? How did you acclimate the fish and too what tank? display or qt. 2 hours in the bag maybe he was working on mucus cocoon to get some sleep.
You were not acclimating him to the QT tank but tossed him in when you saw the mucus? Not good for the fish...bag floating is good if your bag has been in car or hotter the tank water. Cut bag and start drop acclimation asap when home from LFS. No point in floating that is what acclimation is for..UNLESS Tank and bag are way off temp from one another. Fish in a bag is a ticking time bomb.

As soon as that bag was cut that fish was in trouble. Acclimated for temp but not salinity,ph, and so on. Floating bag is not acclimation.

That fish has been in car ride for an hour an half and I placed it in 10g qt. Floating. I had to go eat dinner, came back and fish was pretty much gone. Looked like it waa chocking on it's own membrane.

Hmmm that's strange because oxygen was filled prior to leaving and my car was with ac at all times for the car ride home and tank wasn't hot at all. Maybe the difference would be about 2 to 3 degrees colder in my house. I keep my qt around 77 degrees.
