So I have a 40 set up with a sump, 30lb of live rock and sand in the sump, tank is bare bottom. It’s still going through some cycling, but just curious as to what would be good stock wise for a frag tank when the time comes. I been reading so much different opinions, would love to have a wrasse for pest control, but being bare bottom I’m kind of limited.

Sixline wrasse. Probably number 1# frag tank inhabitant.
But if you want any other fish a Pygmy wrasse of some sort. It’s rumored that certain damselfish eat pests. But really you want to keep your stock limited as possible and focus on corals if doing a frag tank

Yeah I have read about the damsels eating pests. I really only want to stock fish that are gonna serve a purpose in that tank. The sixline needs a sand band though, correct?
