40 breeder low cost frag tank build

Looking to make a 40 breeder into a frag tank as I have a few laying around. Still just planning but wanted to try and keep the drain and return as simple as possible. Such as an elbow and screen for my drain and a single loc line return. So Looking for opinions on what size bulkhead and elbow I should go with for the drain, I already have a 20 gal sump with baffles I intend to use...

Yeah just not sure how big of a bulkhead and strainer to go with, was most likely gonna do a 3/4" loc line return drilled in also.

1.5" drain.

Would going down to a 1" return hose be ok with a 1.5" drain, or should I run 1.5" pipe to the sump?

I thought you were doing 3/4" return. Not sure what you mean about 1.5" to the sump.

I too used a 40 g breeder with 1" in and out. Controlled the flow with valves on both sides.

Another factor is the cost of plumbing jumps from 3/4 to 1 1/4.

Sorry I ment from the drain hose, get what I'm saying from that 1.5" elbow which will be my drain,can I bring it down to 1" where it exits the tank to the sump.. Hope I'm making sense lol
