40 breeder stand

For all your 40 breeder enthusiasts, where did you purchase your stand? I have been having a hard time finding a stand that will fit a tank dimension of 36" Length by 18" Wide.

Did you make your own stand? If so, what type of materials are neded?

the one i am using is actually a old tv stand that i just beefed up with 2x4's. im planning to put doors on it but i have to have them made and just cant afford it right now.

40B fan here I've built my stands in the past for them in the past. However, I build the stands for all my tanks, even my 220 now.

I made my own stand. I overbuilt my stand on purpose. I used 2x4s and a sheet of nice plywood. I built the top and bottom of the stand. I constructed the top and bottom (rectangles) by laying 2x4s with the wide side down and screwing them together. Then I screwed and glued vertical 2x4s in each corner of the bottom piece, along with a 2x4 in the front and rear center of the bottom stand. In case that sounds confusing, I would now have a flat rectangle of 2x4s with 6 vertical 2x4s. Then I added the top piece with screws and glue. To help with stability, I cut and installed angled pieces of wood to the inside corners of the top and bottom rectangles. Then I installed a piece of plywood in the bottom for the sump to sit on (put this in before I screwed the top on). I also added a 2x4 to brace the stand between the front and back vertical 2x4s (on the ends only since a sump would be in the middle). When I put these in, I made sure to put then high enough for me to slide my sump out of the end of the stand. Then I made doors out of plywood: 2 doors on the front and 1 door on each side. The doors on the side allow me to access teh sump better, which was an old problem that I had on a previous tank. painted it all black. I had very basic tools (screws, power drill, borrowed a router for the door edges, measuring tape, pencil, and an angle) and it came out fine. nothing special. see pics here:

Butts182, thanks for the detailed explanation. I was really considering in building my stand, but luckily I found another reefer selling his setup. Thanks everybody.
