Thinking of starting a 40 breeder fowlr (then turning it into a reef after it is stocked). What fish could I have in it that don’t usually hide a lot? Besides clownfish. How many trochus snails, astrea snails, and dwarf hermit crabs would I need? Can I have a skunk shrimp?

Maybe a wrasse, pygmy angel, some type of blenny, royal gramma and something else.

My stock in a 40b includes a clown, black lined fang blenny, yellow prawn goby “ hides constantly”, and a red lined wrasse. And they all get along great. Im actually thinking of adding one more fish soon. Since you said besides clown I would definitely get a wrasse. They add lots of movement and color along with being quite the character. Just make sure to get a wrasse that’s appropriate for that size tank.

Just a note on Gramma's... Great looking fish, and pretty active... but can be territorial (borderline jerk) at times. They will also burrow and move sand to make themselves a home.

Which wrasse should I get? I will be adding the gramma last. Is a 20 long for qt big enough? Can I also have a goby with a pistol shrimp? Or a flame cardinalfish or red stop light cardinalfish?
