Currently have a 40 breeder, found a reef ready deep blue 57 rimless for sale locally.
both tanks have the same footprint, but the 57 is higher. (20H vs 16H).

Aside from the obviously better looks of the rimless, would there be any benefit whatsoever going to the taller tank? Anything i could keep in the 57 that i couldn't have in the 40? Most likely I would just transfer the rock structure over, would probably build an egg crate platform to lift it up a couple inches, but other then that, would be identical.

Current lights would have no problem with the increased depth (2x radion XR30's)

Congratulations on the new tank! It may give you more flexibility at what you can put at different levels within the tank. Also it may change your flow plan somewhat. Good luck!

oops sorry, i haven't bought the tank, I'm just pondering out loud whether or not it would be a worthwhile upgrade.

No worries! I think the appearance will be the biggest difference.

I just downgraded from a 57 deep blue to a nuvo fusion 30long. Keep in mind the overflow is HUGE and takes a lot more space than you think. It is difficult to get good flow in it since the overflow is so huge. Aquascaping is difficult too.

Also it only has two holes. I had to use the two holes for herbie, with a pipe over the top for return. Stick with the 40g breeder.

New deep blue 57 here. Got the tank and stand for free from a buddy. Overflow is huuuge and was difficult to aquascape. I went to a herbie after one week of it running. Silent now. I do like my tank but I don’t think it’s worth upgrading from a 40b.
