So pretty sure ill be starting this tank at the end of the month. Getting 12 or 25 lbs of rock from aquacon Bali alor. Gonna pick up an eshopps psk-75 next month. 40 lbs of sand and gonna try out the deep blue solar flare LEDs, probably, 2 whites and 3 blues. What hydor koralia powerheads would be suitable for this size tank? Two 750s possibly? I want to try out rock and mini maxi carpet anemones possibly some sps.

Can I do 60 lbs of sand with an engineer goby or watchman and it'll be fine?
Original plan is to start when I get the stand built, cycle the tank, aquascape how I want and transfer corals over from 29g when done cycling. I'm going to get a culture starter kit package from Ipsf.com so the tank will be strong for fish.

Once I get the vortech mp10 and skimmer I'm gonna start the cycle. Question though once it is cycles can I leave it fish less and just put in snails crabs shrimp and coral(if I have the lights by then)?

So I'm getting the eshopps psk-75 or reef octopus nwb-10.

Equipment list and other things getting. Need suggestions.

1) eshopps or reef octopus.
2) koralia w/wavemaker either 2x850 or 1050?
3)150w heater or 2 75 watt heaters?
4) 20-40lbs live sand/20-40lbs dry sand. (50/50)
5) 10-15lbs live rock enough?
6) 25-40lbs dry pukani rock.
7) diy canopy for par38 LEDs?

How's my list so far?

Both are really good companies.

IMO, 1 heater. You live in FL, good weather is upon us for at least 6 months. I haven't had a heater fail.

List is fine. You seem to be on track with what you want to do.

I have a sps dominated 40 breeder at the moment. These would be my recommendations based on my experiences.

I would look at the aquamaxx co-1 or the vertex omega 130 both have great reviews and the build quality on the vertex is second to none. But your original option aren't bad either.

2) koralia w/wavemaker either 2x850 or 1050?
If you can swing it an mp40 (an mp10 would not give you enough flow for a 40b and mp40 would give you room to upgrade) or a jebao wp25

3)150w heater or 2 75 watt heaters?
It's always good to run dual heater for redundancy just in case one fails but you can get away with one for now.

4) 20-40lbs live sand/20-40lbs dry sand. (50/50)
I'd skip the live sand, I don't really buy into it but that's me. How much would depend on how deep you want to go and what you want to keep. Keep in mind those gobies can really make a mess of things and can end up burying corals on the sand bed.

5) 10-15lbs live rock enough?
My current tank I started with all dead rock and I'm glad I did, no unwanted pests or algaes.

6) 25-40lbs dry pukani rock.
I used as much rock as I needed to build the scape I was happy with. I don't believe in those per gallon rules.

7) diy canopy for par38 LEDs?
I don't think you'll end up being happy with par38s. You're not going to get good coverage and to get enough par38s to get good coverage you can just buy a fixture. I'd recommend looking at the ocean revive t247. It's got good features and a great price. I'd pick it over all the other inexpensive led options because of the heatsinks and timer and the fact that it's a good looking fixture helps too (if not using a canopy)

I hit a bump in the road financially, unfortunately, but i will be starting this tank up hopefully in the next month. I'm planning in doing it barebottom with a sump/refugium. I might turn my 10g into a frag tank plumbed into the 40breeder.

finished building stand tonight. Gonna start painting it now.

Stand is painted but now that I have the tank sitting on it empty I might drop the height to 24" instead of 36.
