Looking to add in the order below
  • Yellow Watchman Goby and pistol shrimp pair
  • Zebra Barred Dartfish (pair or trio)
  • Starry Blenny
Have heard about compatibility issues with blenny, goby, dartfish. Can I add these three fish or will it create problems?
Will add over time to allow for biological filtration to catch up. Is this overstocked?
Would love to add Flame Angel in future if possible. Will be staying with mostly softies. Thoughts?

9 month old tank with “stable” parameters. 50 lbs. live rock in two separate structures (lots of hiding spots -I think) and sand bottom. No sump only HOB filtration.
Currently have 2 ocellaris clowns and single banggai cardinal. 2 cleaner shrimp, tuxedo urchin, serpent starfish and a few snails and hermits. GSP, Xenia, zoas and a small hammer coral. Everything in tank for over 3 months.

Appreciate your help!!

Im not to familiar with that particular blenny but the gobies and dartfish will definitely work. I have a ywg with a zebra dartfish and they're pretty good friends. The switch holes every few days and sometimes they even share! I also have a midas blenny. The midas hangs out in the rocks when he isn't swimming around and the goby and dart live under a huge acro skeleton. Sounds like you have a pretty nice setup. I'd like to see it. It stinks nobody replied earlier. I just saw it

I have a diamond goby and starry blenny without any problem. I don't think you will have any problem with yellow watchman goby and starry blenny as well. Yellow watchman goby will stay on the bottom most of time and starry blenny hanging out on the rocks.

Thanks for the input. Definitely moving forward with the YWG and Zebra Dartfish.
Hearing other stories about Starry Blenny being a bad character... aggressive with other algae eaters (tangs, etc.), spitting sand, generally causing trouble. Love the look of these fish, personality and any algae eating help but worried about interactions with other fish. Would another blenny be safer? Tailspot?

I am housing the starry blenny with a yellow tang and yellow eye kole tang. They all get along very well. I never see starry blenny spitting sand, but my lightening maroons do that all the time. Perhaps they learned from the diamond goby.

Glad to hear they get along. Really like the Starry blenny so would like to give this a try.

thanks again!
