40 Gallon Breeder Build

what exactly would 120 optics do then? I would imagine eventually I'm going to bust open the case, I've heard rumors that you can have their DM series be fully controlled by an Apex controller.

Rick will change out the optics, but it has to be done before its shipped. He will change them to either 120 or 60. I don't think he upcharges for that either.

I made it out of 3/4 conduit pipe using a $40 pipe bender from home depot (which I quickly returned after I used...shady, I know :behindsofa:). The pipe itself cost $4, the bolts were $3, and I already had the brackets, but I think they were $2 at HD.

It took me about 15 minutes to make in total. Two quick bends, drilled the holes for the bolts to hold the light itself, and then bracketed the pipe to the back of the stand.

I ended up modifying it a little bit and painting it black. I like it because it gets the job done, but is sleek and unobtrusive and no holes had to be drilled into the walls. I'll post a picture of the completed product tonight.

It's looking real good Jordan you are doing a great job in the DIY field and it will look great when all finished, If there is such a thing...

UPDATES! Its been a long time since I've updated this. I've been busy with work, got engaged, and have been letting the tank cycle, so I haven't been able to find the time to post some updated pictures. I'm trying to decide if I like the rock scape or not, but so far its been making it easy to pick where to place the corals.

Saturday I got in the Jebao WP25 I had ordered. Anyone have an recommendations of the best settings for a 40 gallon breeder? I've had it on the W1 setting at 50% power, and the corals I've added seem to be happy.

I'll try to add some pictures tonight if my fiancé can bring over her DSLR. I have quite a few corals and a couple fish (I mean that literally, they are a mated pair of clowns) that have been added.

Looking good! When are you getting the new light?

Its leaving NC today, and should be here Wednesday. I may wait a day or two to put it up though, Bill said he'd school me in how to program it.

The Synergy reactor I bought a while back should be ready for pickup this week too I believe.

Thanks guys.

no date yet, probably sometime in spring 2015. Our plan is to do a European destination wedding so it will give us some time to save.

What is that overflow you used? I am desperately looking for my best option, I don't want to make a mistake on anything on this tank, just want to do it all so right! ohh I am building a 40 breeder very similar, great job on your tank!

I used a glass-holes overflow and drilled holes for the overflow and return. Its pretty quiet, but if I can definitely hear it if I listen for it. It does exactly what I need it to do and has the look I want. The cost was I my budget, and I was able to get it right away.

If you really want to do it up and get the best option available, talk to Rick (Mixer1 I believe) at Synergy Reef. They make the ghost overflow used on the Reef Savvy tanks. It may take a little bit longer to get it depending on their work load, but from talking to those that have one or seen them in person...you won't be disappointed. When I finally get a big tank, its going to on the list of items to splurge on.
