40 gallon breeder, now with life!

Hi,
After many weeks of running and cycling, my tank now has some life! Here are some pics of my new inhabitants

My clownfish, sold to me as caramel clowns, they eat like little pigs!

My Rasta Zoa, doing great so far

Montipora digita I think, was given to me as an experiment to see how well it would do with my lights, a Fluval 3.0.

Monti cap, also recently fragged, looking ok, hope it will do well with my lights.

keep in mind that I’m running Fluval 3.0 marine lights, not the best but I’d like to see how the corals respond to them and if what I have will grow. Nitrate and phosphate are low, im running a skimmer but might turn it off for a while to get the nitrate and phos up. I’ll try to update as time goes on .

Wow thats interesting! What kind of live rock is that? It looks like the remnants of an encrusting goniopora? The best type of liverock IMO are old calcified skeletons of corals. The more layers of skeletons and the older the rock, the better!

My most beloved tank I had was a 40breeder that lasted. That tank really started my reefing hobby obsession. Hey, if you pay for shipping i'll donate a goniopora frag as a "good luck gift!" I have so many frags I don't know what to do with them.

Thanks for the free frag offer, I’m in Canada so that might be a problem .
Im not sure what type of live rock that is, I picked it up many years ago and some of it has been left outside for some of those years, which I cleaned up and put it right back in the tank, no I’ll effects. Chemicals in yards are banned in my are so I wasn’t overly worried.

Nonsense! I remember how excited I was when I got my first coral 20+ years ago. I still have that original rock of Green Polyps. Even though they are considered weeds, I will always have that rock of green polyps as my first successful coral. You're going to have a lot of fun in this hobby.

I almost forgot!! Here is a mushroom from my tank from years ago, he survived somehow in my live rock holding tank, him and some hermit crabs that are now over 4 years old! He popped up on a piece of live rock that i put in the tank and has since grown from a small blob to about dime sized now.

Another odd thing is that since I added the corals my hair algae is disappearing. It was growing all over the glass and I got some snails to clean but still, the algae is almost all gone. I guess my refugium is working, maybe too well.
