I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LQhrHyX-kM&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Since I want to use this breeder as a display tank I would like it a bit taller than 2.5', breeders are a bit too shallow, though I love the depth.

Would we all agree that 3' is a good height? My goal is to have a good view into the tank while sitting on the couch and also standing up close.

Is there a better tutorial than the one in the video?

I used this site (FishandTips.com: do it yourself aquarium stands) and pretty much came up with a similar design as in the video for my 40 breeder, but where he put his 2x4's attached to the front and back pieces, I attached mine to the left and right 2x4's. One thing I did was made sure to place my supporting 2x4's (the ones that actually hold the top part, under/above my joints for better support and rigidity.

First off, I always liked higher stand heights than the typical store-bought stands. For me, 36 inches is a nice height. While standing you can view the tank without having to bend over. However, you mention a couch. Sitting in a couch you will be looking upward to the tank. I personally still don’t have a problem with this with my tank.

As far as the video…. I think that is pretty descriptive. I don’t know what more you could ask for. The design is very similar to the tired and true tank stand design here:

This is the design I used on the 90 gallon tank I have.

I'm going to build one this weekend. But my is a bit longer and more width, since I want to put 40B top and a 40B sump inside the stand.

I made my stand 40" tall.. Turned out to be a perfect height for a 24" tall tank..

Ask your questions about the stand... I will answer them
