40 Gallon Breeder Sump Question

As the sump doesn't have much pressure on it I wouldn't think that 1/4" would be that bad with a large bead of silicone sealant... If you can, take pics of the build here - would be great on the forum...

A 200 watt Eheim/Jager heater can fit on the bottom of a 40 g breeder sitting front to back.

Consider cutting the PVC for the emergency drain so that it ends above the water line. That way, it'll make some noise when water is coming through it - and alert you to take a look at things.

I will be absolutely amazed if this thing holds water. This was an absolute comedy of errors.

First I tried to cut a small hole in the tube so it comes out slower for me to control. Cut the tube and start pumping, next thing you know it is spraying like a fountain. Quick clean up! Ok use what landed in the tank to spread by hand before resuming and getting it where it belongs. Good job.

Make my bead, but think it is still to thick so there is way too much extra.

Not so bad, not the neatest but when I removed the tape it shouldn't look so bad. Wait a few minutes and pull the tape because it needs to be pulled when wet.

Baffle slips and slide all over tape hits the side wall depositing silicone where it does not belong, actually right where the next baffle goes so I have to clean up, all the while trying to get the baffle back to being square. All the silicone pushes out of one side so now im trying to press it back in.

Smear lines every where, globs everywhere, paper towels covered in silicone everywhere.

I'm stressed I'm getting a beer!

Oh I have two more baffles to complete still. I'm not sure I bought enough silicone for this job!

SMH what the heck ROTFLMAO LOL (I'm sure there are more but I'm too old for that kind of talk)

Thank you for the advice, I will cut it shorter.

Finished all three. I would win a contest for the ugliest sump. If it doesn't leak I will be so happy. If it does, I'm springing for a pre made sump. I don't want you to have to try to take the glass out with that massive amount of excess silicone. Maybe at another time but I really want to get the tank cycling it has been long enough.

Filled the fist chamber and so far so good. It is ugly but the second chamber is dry so it is holding. Going to let it sit for an hour then going to continue filling
