402 Gal Deep In-Wall Build

Following your build because I’m moving a peninsula Tankme into a wall and was thinking to position the tank as you have, looking into the end for a deeper effect. Also want to see how you frame/finish out the viewing side.

Spied this photo on Insta, how cool would that be at night!

Awesome picture! I love the canyon look. I’m hoping to have a similar look with lots of open sand to the back of the tank

This will be a good look especially with a steep almost vertical canyon wall or bommie

The tank is here and in place!
It was a little more tricky than we anticipated, but with the help of a few more guys (7 total), we got it in place. This thing is heavy! Haha. Since I was carrying the tank in, I wasn’t able to get any pictures of the process. But here’s some of it in the van, and then on the stand

This is great. And you can still view the long side from the fish room.

You might want to ask him for extra hinges. They rust over time. I’ve yet to find a galvanized or stainless concealed hinge.

That’s a good idea! I was thinking about spraying the back of the door and hinges with some extra flex seal I have laying around the house. I figure it can’t hurt. Haha

I used sliding doors above my tank. Then plywood with grooved wood to slide the plywood.

I broke it recently getting ready for a new tank. Worked well for about a decade. Here is a recent pic

Did a couple of trim pieces on the front to fill up the gaps between the tank and the wall. I bought a piece of white acrylic off Amazon, and some double sided gorilla tape adhesive.

I also added a piece of clear polycarbonate to the front/top of the tank. It is 6” wide and will help prevent some splashing on the walls where the tank sits inside the studs, and will also hold the pair of 1” sea swirls I’m using for the returns.

Made a little more progress over the weekend. I have had these rocks saved for years from different systems, so I had as many options as possible when doing my aquascape.

I used the same technique as Tidal Gardens for gluing the rocks together. They have a great video on YouTube of how they did their scapes using thin super glue and sand to connect pieces.

All together, I think I spent about 10 hours and 44oz of superglue to get it done! Haha. But I’m happy with how they turned out. I tried to leave room for grow-out, and still keep that deep canyon look.

Also got some cord management done for the lights.
