Just started what will be a mixed reef and I'm cycled and have two clown fish and a small rock of zoanthids right now. I was wondering what fish/inverts I could/should add that are reef safe and serve a purpose but that can also live in that size tank together. All feedback is appreciated. Thank you!!

A Halichoeres chrysus or H. melanurus for coral pest control.

A neon goby for scale and slime coat care.

A rainsford goby for filamentosus algae and clean top layer of sand.

I'll have to look into those, can the gobies be together? Also does the tank have to be covered for them?

Here is my 40b in it I have
2 clown fish
1 red striped goby
1 royal gramma
1 Banggai Cardinalfish
1 damsel

Great looking tank! I'm thinking about adding a few chromis because of their schooling behavior, but I'm not sure how many I should add for my tank and still be able to add one or two other fish.

I think with your 2 clown fish 1 goby 2 or 3 chromis and maybe 1 other fish would be the tops. Don't add them all at once and keep testing the water.

They have been in for a week now and nitrite and ammonia still test out at 0 so it's looking good. I'll prolly do a shrimp and goby pair. Then 2-3 chromis and hold off for a mandarin in 6-12 months.

Be sure to stock up on copepods and dose phytoplankton before you add a mandarin. If you can find one that eats frozen food that would be the best.here are my shrimp and goby pair very cool.

Yeah I know better than to make that fish suffer so I will search for one that eats frozen but if not I'll make sure my tank is well established.

Do you think it would be okay to add a frog spawn if the tank has been up for about a month and a half and the cycle has been done for a week? A week ago I added the clowns and it's all testing good still. 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite.

Yes I think would be fine. The frog spawn I have is very hardy.

I have a 20 gallon sump with chaetomorpha and a skimmer in it. The tank is been up and running for a year and a half and I've never had any algae problem. I do a 10 gallon water change every other week and just keep the glass clean. As long as you do all the maintenance on your tank you shouldn't have a problem.

I have a Berlin sump no fuge, but a pretty big skimmer it's a reef dynamics. And my plan is to do 5g water changer each week.

I think problems arise when people get lazy. If you stay on top of your maintenance you'll be fine.
