40b vs 55

IMO, a 55 is worthless for a reef tank. With only 11", front to back, there's not enough room for aquascaping. Anything less than a 75, a 40 breeder is your best option and a great size! The only issue is the 3' length. Once you buy lighting for it, you're pretty much stuck to a 3' tank. Using the same lighting to upgrade to a larger tank will be difficult. However, a 40 breeder is a great size to ALWAYS have...lol. I currently have one set up and a second sitting in my garage.

As ReturnOfSid mentioned, the 40b is a great 'gotta have' size tank - when you do your next upgrade (and don't we all), the 40b is a great sump .. I have one sitting under my 120 with a piece of glass that I glued in for a baffle. Great size sump for any larger tank.

I would go for the 40b as well... the deeper tanks are always better for corals.. more real estate...
