I just setup my tank and its cycling as we speak. IM running a fluval 306 with a ton of media (eheim substrate, biomax, biohome ultimate). Once my tank is cycled i plan on getting two wyoming white clowns and my question is if i wanted to get coral down the line would i need a protein skimmer and if yes which one would be best? My only option is a HOB and tank is rimmed.

Yes on skimmer.

Aquamax hob 1.5

If it doesnt fit, you can thin some of the black plastic rim off with razor blade so it fits flush

Hi there. Without an overflow box skimming the surface of the water, you'll begin to see a buildup of oils and other particles. Rather than a HOB protein skimmer (which can be unsightly), I'd recommend getting a FigiCube All-in-one kit. This will basically convert your normal rimmed tank in an AIO, so no drilling is needed. You'd be able to conceal your heater and other biomedia. Here's a link

Oh I like those. Didn't know they existed!

Depending on the corals you choose, you might not need a skimmer, but it’s never a bad idea imo. I do have a hob aquamaxx skimmer on my 40b and it works fine.
