40G cleaning crew / cycle started

That sounds like a good idea, just didnt want to buy them and then they die off because no food for them. I will be doing a 15% water change and then going to buy my first fish.

Just make sure you put it low enough for your hermits to grab them if you do get the hermits. Any ideas on what your first fish will be? We started with 2 Bangaii Cardinals in our 93 gallon cube :)

Ohhh and make sure you have a stocking list for the fish you want as you have to introduce them in order to eliminate/reduce aggression. This was stressed heavily to us by everyone we spoke to when we started and can definitely understand the reason now that we are almost all the way stocked on our fish list (We are only missing our 2 clowns and our Blue Throat Trigger)

I will probably do 2 clowns at first because of my daughter wants them. It will be something like clown, dawf angelfish, dragonets, maybe chromis. but i have not looked into how many i can stock. I will probably just do like 5 fish and corals everywhere haha.

Be careful with the angel and your corals as they are known to pick at them. Some have luck with them in reefs and others don't. On the dragonets, they are hard to keep. Make sure you have a healthy pod population or that they are good with prepared foods. Mandarins are beautiful but are really picky and hard to get them to accept prepared. I have 2 scooter blennys that just LOVE mysis shrimp so it helps. They even come up to the coral feeder when I spot feed them. You will definitely have fun with it! It does get addicting and expensive though lol

This is ours so far, our rock is actually darker than it looks in the picture, we're going through the ugly phase so try not to have only whites on lol

Thats a nice tank, I have a 75g tank in the garge but i wanted to start with this 40 to see how it was going to turn out. I also bought everything so if i wanted to change over i would not have to change items to clean, filter, lighting. ECT. i just ordered my CUC they will be at my house thurs,so ill be double checking everything and making sure my lvl's are just right.

What food does everyone use when feeding there clowns, and ect fish . thanks

Nice! He looks so tiny!! I feed my fish frozen mysis shrimp and feed frenzy thawed in some tank water with Garlic Guard and later drained and put into fresh tank water to help with the water quality (it gets the water really cloudy when it thaws). I also add a couple of pellets and I keep a sea weed clip dipped in Garlic Guard for my two tangs. I spot feed my fish to make sure everyone is eating :)

ya he is small I got him at petco and they were feeding him flake food, so I got some until I can get some meat food. Has anyone used krill to feed salwater fish? Also I need to set up my led light anyone have any times on white and blues in theday time ?

It's up to you on the time. If you want to be home when it's "day" for the fish you can set it up that way. We have our lights turn off at 11 and the blues kick on at 6 and gradually increase every 30 mins with the whites kicking on at 8 and reaching their max from 11-1. You have to play around and see what works.

I am running LEDs and neither my whites or blues go above 50% - they would bake my corals and tank if they did. I have an Evergrow iTouch 2040 led fixture.

I started out with whites at 30 and blues at 40
I have the same fixture over my 40B as well. Mine is only 12 inches off the water. How is the coverage and illumination at those levels? I'm thinking my lights are too high and I also run all three channels. Which I'm started to believe is too much. My max is 30, 70, 60.

I don't have any corals ATM but they look really bright to me at 14 inches off the water. Covers the tank really good. With you running your light 12 inches off the water and have the pro 180 they must be really bright on the tank

Does that fish I have go good with clown fish? What's the stocking number of fish in a 40g breede tank. I was think about like 5-8 fish??

I have my RR Pro180 12 1/2" from surface. Channel 1 @15%max & 2@30%max &3@10%max at night. I've been acclimating my corals from my 26g T5HO and so far it's been perfect. No bleaching or browning out. All LPS/SPS. Actually my lil frag of Purple Birds Nest is going crazy :)

Do you plan on raising the setting at all or just going to leave them where they're at?
