What corals are you going to keep? With the pumps being adjustable you can start slow and bump them up as needed.


Think you'll be fine with what you have. Can always add more down the road if needed. Or move them around on the back glass to get the flow where its needed.

I’ll be attempting a primarily SPS tank on this one so definitely will be needing a lot of flow. I’ve read that the wave box can have some negative affects on tank structure and could potentially shorten the tanks life span which is the only thing I’m afraid of.

The wave will put unnecessary stress on the tanks. The way this tank is built I'm pretty comfortable doing it. The bottom and top of the tank are encased in pvc for support to the tank. If it was a rimless tank, I'd be skeptical to do it.

My question is did you use already cycled media for this tank or at least water from your frag tanks ? And also how long did you wait before adding your first coral I see you posted adding water nov 13 as well as adding fish and coral but don’t think it was all done at the same time?

Going from a smaller 20 gallon frag tank to a 90 gallon frag system with some cycled media from my display and 20 gallon so wondering when it’s safe to add coral if you use cycled media or the tank is already cycled.

So September 4th 2023 I filled it with water. Used about 200 gallons from my frag tanks and the rest was new. All the rocks in the display have been sitting outside for 2-3 years (Dead). I ended up seeding the tank with rock out of the frag tanks that I placed in the sump. Also added BioDigest bacteria to the system.

I added 4 chromis on September 28th 2023 and started introducing food.

On October 8th 2023 I moved the rest of the fish from my frag tanks to the tank.

About a week after that I started moving corals over.

I rushed the process for sure but knock on wood it has worked. I did loose quite a few of my corals in this process. A lot more than I'd like to count.

I have swapped tanks the same day and moved everything over in the past without a hiccup. I used a plastic kiddy pool and filled it with tank water and all the inhabitants from an old 180 gallon. I was replacing the tank due to scratches (Craigslist purchase). Moved everything over in a day with no issues.

Thanks for sharing your process sorry to hear about your lose of coral. I don’t think I’m going to rush anything I think I’m just gonna try and play it safe. I set up a 75 gallon display that has been up for about four months now and I added two hammers and two frog spawn from my dad’s eight year old tank and they died within about two weeks so I’ve been very picky on what I put in there only have some Zoa’s and a Duncan right now

I think if I rush and add coral too soon to the new frag tank, I will just be testing all the time like you were to ease my mind

Good to not rush it if you can. Nothing good happens quick in this hobby.

I was testing nutrients like a mad man initially. My P04 is still higher than I like, but I've stopped stressing about it. As long as the tanks not growing nuisance algae and the corals look good I'm throwing food in and letting it go. The way I like to run a tank is heavy nutrients in and heavy export. It seems to find its balance and will do just fine.
