46g bowfront sumpless mixed reef

Our tang is out grazing on the rocks today; first time I’ve seen him do this since the LFS, so I think that’s a good sign that he’s getting more comfortable.

A new fish this exciting means two tank videos in one week!

Short little video of our newest coral, an alveapora.

Picked up a Melanarus wrasse last night, and he’s absolutely gorgeous. Dove into the sand after about 45 minutes last night, but he’s out and about again today, which is a pretty good sign, I think. I’ve definitely noticed our bristletooth tang chasing him a little, but nothing too bad, I think? Anything specific I should watch for that would be cause to intervene?

I now have our 80 gallon tank upgrade at home!! I’ve changed my mind completely and decided to learn how to plumb a sump since the tank I was able to find was a reef-ready tank with an internal overflow and sump included in the package. Here we go! Take a look at the thread I started here if you want to help me get it plumbed.

In related news, now that I actually have my bigger tank upgrade at home (and therefore, a legit date for the tank upgrade to happen), I felt comfortable bringing home my centerpiece fish for the new tank, a copperband butterfly. It was a trade-in that had been acclimated to living in an aquarium for years, and I was able to watch it eat frozen shrimp in the LFS, which is the only reason that I pulled the trigger. As you can see in the 2nd video, it’s already eating frozen for me also!

It's almost upgrade time! Hope to transfer everything this week...

The tank contents (except the sand) were officially all transferred to the new 80 gallon tank in our living room on Thursday. Sold this tank, stand, and canister filter to a friend who’s setting up a freshwater tank.

Please come check out my new build thread if you want to continue following me as I navigate the reefing learning curve!
