48x24 frame

I am about to reseam a 120 and a 55g. I am concerned the frames will be unusable after I tear them down. Also, if im going through all the trouble to refinish these tanks i would prefer them to have new frames. Does anyone know where I can get a 48x24 frame for a 120g? I am able to get the smaller frame for the 55g from over the edge but they do not offer one wide enough for the 120. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

FWIW, several years ago I rebuilt a 55g and ordered the top and bottom frames. When the frames arrived, they turned out to be close, but were a slightly different size. Thankfully I was able to use it on another tank later, but for that initial project it was a fail. Good luck with your adventure, but please know that the dimensions can vary even on commodity sized tanks.

What did you end up doing with the 55 the frame did not fit on? I thought the 55 was going to be the easy one lol. The 55 in my new set up is going to be half fuge and the other half a cryptic sump remote from my traditional sump. I'm not as concerned with the fit and finish as I will be of the 120 display but if I'm going to do it I would like to do it right so I wanted to reframe that also.

I converted it into a grow-out tank (I was breeding a lot of fish at the time). The bottom frame was still in tact, and the top was broken. I built a wooden frame with a cross brace that held everything in place. It clearly wouldn't work as a display tank, but it worked for several years for it's function-only purpose. If I remember correctly I finally gave it away to someone needing a tank for a reptile.

I agree that you can usually release the frames with a flat knife, narrow putty knife, or similar, but I have also torn them up in the past so go slow and try not to force it. I usually figured out how much force was too much force just after I applied too much force!

I suppose I could paint the frames but I am worried they may be too brittle to succeed with that.
