So, I just bought this Amcrest UltraHD4k (8MP) IP camera. With the goal to monitor my reef when not at home. Should be in this weekend, I will put up a brief review once it's setup. This IP camera just came out and it has 8MP sensor, supports POE, 4k, ip67 weatherproof and night vision all for $159.

I know, it sounds like I am a salesman! However, with this feature set and price I am just cautiously excited.

Too bad you didn’t have it for the parade yeserday fly eagles fly

curious as I was looking at this one. I would love to know if the angle of the camera can be adjusted "vertical" - I know it doesn't pan/tilt but worried where this will need to be put in my ceiling compared where my tank is.

So am I. Let you know when I get it. If it doesn't work vertical then it will be a challenge. I would need to make a mount for it.

I have the amcrest ..

not the same..

i do like it.. its ok to check on the fish when away.. not great for actually looking for good video.. mine is kinda blurry not high res.. when i set it to HD.. it does slow down..

the soft ware and camera allows panning and tilting.. i think the zoom is digital.. ok but not great.. then again it does pan and tilt.. yours does not appear to do that.. but looks like yours is higher res.. keep us posted..

That is exactly my experience with that Amcrest and the associated/similar Foscam. Enough to know there are fish moving and the tank is there but not enough to watch it remotely for a while like a real video of seeing my tank in person... I am hoping the one the OP is looking at is higher res and isn't blurry

when away.. i have to look at the app for about five min hoping to count and see all my fish.. not like booting up and looking at a netflix show on your phone.. the other thing i would point out.. the closer you have the camera to the tank the better. problme wht mine is its about 7 feet away..
very limited but gives piece of mind i guess.

The video quality is not that bad even from 7' with digital zoom. Ideally you should be about less than 6' from the front of the tank. Mounting it horizontal will not work and it must be mounted vertically on an opposing wall.

I used a small table to test since the opposing wall is too far away.

Other notes:

-Must have a PoE switch or a power adapter
-Power Adapter uses 12v 0.5A. I used a 12v 0.750A it still worked just fine.
-4k support 15 FPS, 1080p supports 30 FPS
-Supports h.265 compression and h.264 (use h.265 for 4k)

If they move this tech to a horizontal camera it could be a winner. It all depends on how close you can mount your camera to the tank.

If you tank is heavy on the blue spectrum (like most of us) it does not handle blues very well.
