4th day into cycling water test

I use something like a cap for every 10 gallons or something? Drives your ammonia way high but one way or another it cycles.

Anyone have any thoughts/input on if you drive your ammonia way high early on, does that in return create a larger population of bacteria?

If so then... Does it matter? if you don't have a food source for the bacteria they'll eventually die anyways right... Thoughts?

for future reference you can get Dr. Tim's ammonia chloride on amazon. Directions on the bottle. 1 drop per gallon. 3 bucks.
On the Dr. Tim's website they have the instructions for fishless cycle using ammonia. I'm doing it now. Day 7.

Oh to late ! dam it haha... But i only dosed on ammonia because my tank seemed cycled in 9 days lol i had 0 Ammoania, 0 Nitrite but still have nitrate ((didn't do a big water change though)) So i want to see if its actually done cycling with this dose... Hope in 24 hours everything is 0, Nitrate won't be tho till i do the big water change.

thats what I'm hoping ahah... we will see... its crazy, i had 0 ammonia and nitrite in 9 days of cycling! and also my base rock has little purple dots! i think thats coralline algae!

Pure ammonia is the way to go for cycling. adding more than an end result of 5ppm isn't recommended as it may prolong the cycle, as would lower than 5ppm.

I would test after 8 hours, 6 if you're impatient.

It was accidently lol.. Didnt do the calculations right. I think its cause my 14 gallon only has like 10gallons of water cause of the rock and sand ect... But ill see what happens

You only went to 6ppm which I don't think will be detrimental, but during a full cycle process you don't want to go over 5ppm or else your risk inhibiting nitrifying bacteria.

So, my Ammonia went from probably higher than 8ppm (was very dark dark green)) it went from that too 1ppm in just 16hours...So thats pretty good but not where i want it! So when it goes to 0 i will try again to boost it to 4ppm and see if it goes to 0 in 12 hours.

When i tested 30 mins after putting ammonia, it was like 12ppm loll. it was like black!!! so, with this test, going to 1ppm actually is pretty impressive!!! tom morning i will test and see if it goes too 0. I'm happy how things are going!

no it wasn't LOL... i just said that to not look like a total idiot for putting so much ammonia LOL... it was actually black green loll i was so disappointed but seeing these results I'm glad i did it cause its pretty awesome how fast my tank got ridd of it!!!

Well hopefully by sunday my tank is done cycling and i can add two clowns!!! So far its going well!

You are good to go; once you have done a 100% water change you should wait a day or two before adding any fish.

Are you using rodi water? Your first test is high on NO3, suggesting that it perhaps were there from the beginning

The tank i got it used. and i had live sand and tank was cycling for like 1 week before doing the first test... Also had live rock.. SO maybe thats why. I'm planning tom to do a 60% water change and than see where the no3 stands.
