5 colors in one zoa! SWEET!

Hey all!

Finally got a good camera (Nikon D50) and I've been taking pictures like crazy today!

This is a bit subjective, but these are neat zoas either way.

Personally, I think there are five colors in these zoas... they looked even better when I got them from the Aquatic Critter in Nashville under the Solaris lights... but alas, my T5s shall have to do.

FWIW, I see green, light blue, purple, hint of red, orange, purple, light blue. 5 different colors in 7 rings! Again, probably subjective but I like them anyway.

What do you guys think? At first glance, they look like a wham'n watermelon morph, but I think they're prettier than that.

I'll post more pics in a bit. Also, please forgive my lack of Photoshop (technically GIMP) skills (IE, the white frame).

whammin watermelons. Very nice though. congrats on the new camera.

I got a new camera lately too and found the Lightroom program in the process as my old nikon view couldnt deal with the new .nef files. You might want to check it out.........photoshop is a pita if you dont use it much....lightroom is a breeze.

I discovered I had serioulsy been cutting myself short for the last year using nikonview. lol

Nice zoas, Brandon. They ought to grow fast for you once they get happy.

How are the Critters tank looking these days? It looks like they are selling frags (more than they used to, anyway, huh?).

Nice zoos. I've had a couple small colonies on my site and never knew what to call them. Whammin' watermelons, I like it.

Thanks for the tip, fly guy! I've been using GIMP, which is AWESOME because its FREE and does more than I need to do (which so far isn't very much

They've been growing pretty fast. Its funny seeing new tiny polyps and bumps each week. I've stopped counting at this point. And since you're here (and this is my own thread, so I can hijack it if I want!

), can you tell me what SPS this is? Brian said you might know.

And while I'm at it, a new favorite mandarin pic my wife took.

Thanks Russellaqua. You can check out zoaid.com for more "names" of different zoas. These probably are a morph of watermelons, but I think the watermelons have pretty much just green, red, and blue in them (a dark blue/purple). Close to the same, though.

The SPS you pictured above is a green pocillopora and it looks like it is adjusting well.

The mandarin look like a male since it has a long dorsal spine.

Oh yeah, definitely a male.

I just like that pic, so I thought I would share. We just got a new camera yesterday (Nikon D50) and we've both been going crazy with it...

Does a new camera suggest that you will start a tank thread? I would like to see more pics of your tank and that amazing mandarin.

OK, here is my final attempt to ID your coral. It is either a stylophora or a pocillopora.

Hard to tell when I first looked I thought pocillopora but when I want back I am leaning toward a green Stylophora.. I could ID it once it is bigger or in person.... pocili ussually have much thinner branches than stylo. Stylos grow slow where pocillipora grows fast to the point it is a nusance when you find babies growing all over your tanks. Pocillipora produce planulae when spawning that can settle all over the tank and is fairly common.

Sure! Why not? Up to this point, the biggest limiting factor has definitely been pictures... now I'm only limited to what lenses I have... I have GOT to get a macro soon.

Dave: Thanks for that. Its been growing quite well... I think its doubled mass since January when I got it. I'll keep an eye on it and figure it out eventually.
