If you plan to add a group of fish to an established tank (i.e. 5 small chromis) at the same time should it be okay? 100 gallon tank that's well established with a few fish in there right now. I've always heard you cant add more than two or three without waiting several weeks in between. Would dosing microbacter 7 daily for a bit and having some freshly mixed saltwater on hand help in case of an ammonia spike be the right way to handle it?

seems like you have steps in place to correct any negative outcome. i'd say for that tank volume it would be okay to add the 5, but yes, monitor ammonia, nitrate, and phosphate after adding- and of course, monitor for aggression!

It’s fine but chromis often carry uronema so I would proceed with extreme caution. That disease does not need a fish host to survive.

How long has the tank been running? Just curious of your definition of established. As stated watch our for euronema. I've seen quite a few chromis in lfs that show signs. I would not buy any new arrivals.
On another note I've never been able to keep more than one chromis long term. I added 7 on two occasions and both times eventually ended with one. I thoughy maybe I would at least end up with a pair but no such luck.

You need to add them at once, or there will be some unnecessary fighting. Your 100g. No problem.

This tank has been running for a couple years and has rock that came from the ocean and was in one of my other tanks for almost three years before being transferred to the current tank when it got set up. So all in all the rocks are at least 5 years aquarium old and however many years before that they spent in the ocean.

Yeah I buy all my stuff quarantined from trusted vendors and understand the risk!

Sorry to be a thread hijacker, but how would this same scenario work with adding multiple larger fish such as tangs seeing as people advise to add them together ?

Same, add them and let the bio catch up if you are going to have multiple of the same tang like 5 yellow tangs, or you could add 5 very different tangs.

Yes but plan to quarantine or at minimum give them a ruby rally pro bath first
