5 Gallon Tank

Local LFS has a Fluval 5 gallon EVO super discounted for me at $60 - (cracked lid, but not a concern to me).

Should I even bother? 5 Gallon is probably really about 4 gallon due to displacement from the substrate, etc. I was thinking if I take the bait, it'll be maybe one clownfish and some crabs and snails. That's about it for livestock.

Maybe a 10-20g for a clown.
You'll want small gobys. Blennys. Ect.

I personally like large tanks. Small just seem not worth the effort. I have a 300gallon reef, 75 gallon freshwater cichlids, 60 gallon reef cube (not setup yet), 30 gallon hospital saltwater. Tanks scale well. a 100 gallon tank is not 20x more work than a 5gallon tank, maybe 5x more work, but 20x more space?

I have an Evo 5 that has been running for 2+ years with soft corals (torches, zoas, xenia, Duncan's, gsp), crabs, a goby, a shrimp, and a clown. All are thriving with no issues.
Not sure why I see people constantly saying clowns can't be kept in these.

Wow in a 5g? That sounds awesome. Didn’t think such a small tank is realistic. Can you post some pics?

5G is definitely possible. It takes a lot of babysitting, but not too much. This tank started doing much better after I stopped obsessively checking parameters every day and messing with it trying to keep everything 'perfect'. I do my floss changes and water changes often. Livestock is currently a clown, engineer goby, orange spotted goby, three female emerald crabs, a pom pom crab, and some snails.
This bioload is high for this tank. I move the spotted goby around my tanks when they need a good substrate sifting and the engineer goby will move to a larger tank when it gets a bit bigger.

The tank has all the upgrades and improvements. Intank filtration chamber, Secce return pump, Nero 3, Prime 16, ATO, etc.

Keep dreaming buddy. A single clown in a 5 gal is perfectly acceptable and VERY common. Please learn your species and their requirements. Now housing a pair fully grown in a 5 is not recommended. A single though is perfectly fine.
