5 Months...Trident

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Many Reefers test monthly or weekly and dose via Neptune DOS, or manually. Put your money towards corals.... all that tech stuff is sometimes more hassle then it’s worth.
I use Hanna PO4
Hanna Alkalinity
Hanna Salinity
Salifert Mag
Salifert Calcium
Never had any issues going on 4 years now.

Why use a Hanna checker instead of salifert tests? Convenience. Same reason I have a Trident- convenience, and more data.

Hanna calcium is said to be a PITA, and they don’t make a Mg test kit. I like Hanna for the accuracy, cost, and simplicity. For me, I just can’t justify the cost of Trident, plus having to set up a waste reservoir for the testing. But I hear they are nice.

Must say I’m surprised the inventory issues have persisted for this long. Either demand is far higher, and more persistent, than they forecasted or their capacity to produce units for sale is very low. I was lucky, and got one almost at the start.

How do you like it? Does it help keep your parameters in check? I finally found stability with my alk, working on calcium now, it's such a drag.

I only use it for monitoring/alerting. It’s only been 5 months, but I’ve been pretty happy with it. I do find myself fussing excessively with my CaRx as a consequence of having more data.

The holdup is the final checks done by Neptune. This isn't something that they can just order up 1,000 more pumps for example. They have to order and build and then do final calibrations back at the head quarters then send out to retailers. Overall it is a pretty solid product and works as advertised.

I think if you have a Neptune ecosystem that supports the trident it would be a great investment really. Time is money and it will save you time. I think the jury is still out with regards to the various number of tests and data collected but I feel Neptune did a pretty decent job of finding a sweet spot of low, medium, and high test numbers vs. reagent life. As it continues to test and they review data maybe the number of tests can actually be reduced further.

10/10 - solid product. Fair price. Easy to setup.

With the Trident I discovered how much my alkalinity was changing throughout the day, and used its controlled dosing feature to dynamically adjust my 2-part dosing to smooth out the daily swings. Prior to the Trident I tested alk every day at the same time, and thought things were pretty consistent. What I didn't realize is that within a couple hours of my test the alk was dropping significantly, and then over night it was building back up so the next test in the morning looked normal. This graph show my actual alk reading and the daily test in red:

After setting the DOS to adjust based on Trident readings, my daily swings are down to 0.05- 0.10 dKH:

I got one in late May and I absolutely love the Trident. There is a couple ways to set up the dosing if you choose, or just use as a monitor/ alarm if something happens. You can still dose using the DOS programming for intricate schedules or tell Fusion your desired parameters and it will adjust the dosing accordingly (within limits you set).

If you think you’d probably like it if you had it....then you’ll love it!

The waste reservoir is no biggie either, I have a old V8 2 liter with a hole drilled in the cap. Trident configuration page has a place to input the size of your waste container and it will keep track of how much fluid it has flushed and then alarm when your getting close to full.
