So i just purchased a 90 gal tank that will be a reefer. Pretty straight forward question, do i need a 5 or 6 stage filter? here are the results from this years water test.

I had a 4 stage and was still getting TDS around 5ppm.

I upgraded to a 6 stage and can make several hundred gallons at 0ppm TDS before filters need changed.

Buy a 12 dollar TDS meter and experiment with it, that is what I did.

Gotcha, yea u got a really good deal on my tank and sump ( got the eshops 3rdgen r300) and just came across a 5 stage ro/di barely used for 100. I just didnt know based on the water test for my city ( TDS is 500 ppm) if 5 stage would be good enough or if i needed a 6 stage. thanks for the reply

You can always add on to the RODI as needed. I started with a 5 and moved to a 7 due to high levels of chloramines and silica in my area.

Id go 6 stage for the carbon blocks. Will help with the chloramine.

As @HotRocks stated, you could add on to the 5 stage a DI chamber. That way you have a sediment filter and two carbon blocks and a DI chamber.

Pressure gauge is needed as well as a inline TDS meter.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
