5 tangs in a 150 gallon???

It is not just swimming room. Each fish needs a territory and safe sleeping place.
I would guess, for swimmers, it would go

1. Tank dimensions long enough?
2. Can bioload sustain?
3. Enough habitat for homes?

In order for determining if a tank is suitable for the addition.

The tank is 5 feet not 6 feet, would it still work? With that many wrasses and other fish will I be able to keep all these tangs? Even the Desjardinii?
No desjardini is way too big to go in this tank no matter the dimensions, the fish gets to be the size of a dinner plate.

Also I would not put a firefish in with these fish, those are super shy and dont do well with large fast fish

I AM going to be all Tang Police, I don’t care whether you want to hear it or not. That tank is NOT big enough. I don’t accept the ‘well I plan to upgrade in the future’ line either, life gets in the way, situations change. If you do upgrade, THEN is the time to put the tangs in together. Personally, I wouldn’t put those Tangs together in anything less than a 10x3x3… Anything else is cruelty. These are wild caught fish that literally go through hell to get to our tanks. The least you can do is give them the very best standard of living when they arrive there. And yes, I practice what I preach. I have an RSR525xl and I only keep one tang in there - a yellow - with some fairy wrasses and some other small fish…

Why even keep that yellow tang? Using your logic, it’s animal cruelty as your tank is no where near large enough.

This is the same size tank I'm looking at. It's the max I think I can manage to turn in the hallway. But 5x2x2 is alot of swimming real estate depending on rock scape.
Its really not a log of swimming space honestly

I would ditch the Desjardinii for sure. If you get a larger tank in the future, you will always be able to buy a Desjardinii. They are not going away.

Definitely use the mirror trick when adding additional tangs. I bought a 12x12 inch mirror tile from Lowe's and stuck it on the side of the tank with some removable adhesive strips. That kept the really aggressive clown tang (and the other current tangs) from terrorizing the two last tangs I added (Naso and Powder Blue). I currently have two sailfin tangs, one yellow tang, one powder blue tang, one clown tang, one blue tang, and one naso tang in a 7 foot 210 and everyone gets along. The tangs do grow fast so make sure you have plenty of swimming room. It was actually quite entertaining watching the clown tang attack his reflection in the mirror for 2-3 days.

That will be fine. Just be aware that with ANY fish there is no guarantee that they will ever get along. As luck has it sometimes, a simple clown, damsel or angel will peck anything to death if not happy, even if it is 4x their size. It can be anything that upsets that balance at any time, even between fish that have been together for years.

There general tendencies and practices but nothing is set in stone. That is why many of us advise against stocking a large list without a lot of experience. Yes, an additional can cause chaos down the road, but a newish tank owner trying to manage learning and 30 fish is a recipe for disaster too.

They will disappear or die one by one. It is the way.

If your LFS does true QT that is great.

UV is not going to prevent disease. But that is no here or there....
I see that all makes sense, thank you for helping me out! Yeah I’m hoping the Anthias will keep em in check, I love schooling fish so I’m willing to take the risk

If I show you my scape will you be able to tell me if it has enough real estate for all these fish?

If I show you my aquarium will you be able to tell me if it has enough room / swimming space and hiding spots for all the fish?

If I show you my scape can you tell if mine has enough swimming space and also rock work for the fish?

If you don’t mind can I show you my tank, then can you tell me if it has enough swimming space and rock work for all the fish?

Which would you suggest removing from this list and which would you say I can keep?

I currently have the firefish and he’s Alr till now, will I be able to keep him if I spot feed (I do that 2 times a day for him) or should I remove him?

How many tangs would you say I’ll be able to keep in this tank then?

Yeah I’ve taken him out of the list. Can you tell me what else I should take out of this list if any? I can show you my aquarium scape if that helps to understand how much swimming space and rock work there is

I’ll definitely try that out! If I show you my scape can you tell me which fish I should remove from this list? That way you can see and understand how much swimming space and rock work there is in the tank

No no I meant the tang is 2 inches, I’m mainly hoping to fatten him up in the 3 months before adding him to the tank that’s all. Since everyone is saying that keeping 2 zebrasoma and one blue tang will cause aggression issues between the zebrasoma and the blue will grow too big, so I’ll change out the blue for the scopas, then the aggression will be more dispersed among the three.
Have you seen the whole list? Is it ok? I hope you don’t mind but I’ll attach it again.

I was OK with the tangs, the clowns and some wrasses, but the 6 chromis, and anthais seems way over the top.

Each time you stretch to far, it may work, but is on the edge of disaster. Too many fish can be a precursor to the onset of disease and then the elastic snaps.

If you want tangs (and I did) you need to give up on numbers of small fish so the environment is a stress free zone.

I have 4 large tangs which was my goal. In addition, a clown pair, Anthais pair, a mandarin and a Copperband.

Since everyone has space, there’s zero agression, low stress, lower bio load, which I believe is key to a healthy, long term environment.

So that’s 10 fish compared to your list of 26.

I tried 9 blue chromis once but the tangs beat the crap out of them.

Some like busy busy tanks, but then wonder why issues crop up.

Quiet peaceful tanks with no killers stalking at night I think goes a long long way to successful reefs.

So will your list work….YES….but the question is for how long?

Is that what you want?
