Hello everyone. I have decided to start saltwater after several years of freshwater and I think I have a good plan but I want to get the thoughts of more experienced fish owners. So far I have a 50 gallon tank with dry sand that I will fill with RO/DI water once my filter comes this week. Before I fill it I will add 40-50lbs of dry rock and maybe 15-20 lbs live rock then add the saltwater .I will then add some bio-spira to get the cycling done faster and let the tank sit for a couple weeks. After that I will add two clownfish to not shock the system. I will also get a skimmer. Some questions I have are; do I need more live rock? Do I need a sump? How long should I wait to cycle it? Are normal florescent lights good enough or do I need to upgrade? Thank you for any thoughts or suggestions that you may have!

Yes that is enough live rock.
Having a sump will make everything easier. You can keep you heater skimmer ext inside.
I can not give you an answer for how long you should wait. What you should do is wait for ammonia and nitite to be zero and you ready.
Flouresent lights are good enough. Of you are going to add coral t5 or leds are needed

Ok thank you. What is the procedure for putting in the live rock? Just put it in or is there other things first?

There is something called curing it but idk too much about it. Some one else will know
