So I got a 50 gallon tank yesterday to upgrade from my 34 gallon. Right now in it I have 2 black and white clowns and a pink spotted gobby. When everything is ready I want to add:

4 green chromises
3 firefish
3 bangai Cardinals
1 flame angel

Does this sound like a good idea or do you have any other suggestions?

Chromis tend to kill each other. So you'd end up with 1.

Ime firefish also don't tend to play nice in groups and I'd stick to one.

Rather go for 2 bangaiis

50g may be too small for a flame.

I think you're pushing it with that stocking list. Also, as mentioned above, you're probably going to end up with one of each after a while...unless that's your plan. I don't know if my heart and wallet could afford that much loss haha. The Chromis will need high flow at the top and several feedings throughout the day to be successful.

Are you set on a flame angel? One of the biota coral beauty angels from liveaquaria may serve you better. They're a bit pricey but raised in captivity and used to smaller areas from the get-go.

Either way, good luck to you! If you're able to keep everything alive your tank will be active and full of color,

I had 4 chromises in my old tank and they never fought or anything and the only reason I don't have them anymore is cause all my fish died at once. And I heard having firefish in a larger group than two was good they just don't get aloud in pairs?

Interesting. How long did you have the Chromis for? The firefish thing is interesting because I've had people tell me they're good in pairs. It's weird to me that such a popular and, at least referred to as, hardy fish has such little information available other than "it'll jump."

I had them for quite a few months (sorry I can't give you exact) but yeah they did very well together and even got along with my PJ Cardinals. But yeah I've heard a lot of different things and Im just kinda like...umm...

Absolutely know the feeling. I was planning on getting a flame angel for my IM40 until I found out about those biota coral beauties.

Fire fish don't do well as three. I have a pair that live together fine though, down to sharing the same dart hole.

The chromis will be fine with high flow in the top of the tank and multiple feedings a day.

Both firefish and bangaii cardinals are intolerant of their own kind, unless they are a bonded pr. As a pr they do great, but if they aren't a pr one will kill the other, and a pr will kill the third if kept as a group.

A flame angel is fine in a 50g tank.

Thanks. Also do need to buy a bounded pair or how does that work??

Yes. Firefish don't appear to change gender as many othee saltwater fish do. So buying as a bonded pr is the best way to ensure one won't kill the other.

LA sometimes offers bonded prs.

I have had a degree of success finding prs in tanks at the LFS. 2 will be closer to each other in a central area of the tank, keeping the other firefish in the tank just a little farther away.
