Hey everyone, so im just curious, when im done using my RODI unit when filtering water, i usually just turn off the water and be done with it until im ready to use again, in which case ill run it for a few minutes to flush anything that may be harmful from water just sitting in the unit when not using it! Should i be somehow flushing the unit if thats possible with this unit or is it okay to just turn the water off and let it be? My concern is if its a good or bad thing to let the cold water that is in it when i turn it off just sit in it until i use it again? Thanks for any help and hope i can get some clarification to this dumb question of mine lol! Thanks eveyone!!

Not much you can do but run it like you have been doing for a few minutes to flush it before use, you don’t want your RO membrane drying out anyway.. it would probably be hard for you to do with the RO buddy but if my unit has been sitting for a while I typically flush my carbon and prefilter section first then my RO membrane before finally connecting to my DI canisters.

So you take apart all that tubing to flush the carbon and sediment seperate, than the membrane seperate before hooking up the di resin and making your water? Seems like alot of work....lol im not lazy or anything id def be willing to do all that if it helps, but just curious do you do this everytime you make water?

Im just disconnecting 2 lines.. I do the prefilter and carbon blocks together typically just when they have been replaced to flush dust or when the unit has been sitting for extended time and if I want to make drinking water I will skip the DI stage by simply disconnecting a single line.. all necessary connections are easily accessible which makes the process simple on my system.

I have the 50gpd RO Buddy and installed a three way valve that not only be able to flush the filter before the DI but also can get drinking water when I need.

You have a much nicer set up than i do... Yours looks pretty easy to get to and unplug and plug and play..... When i get home ill take a pic of my setup to see if you can give me some recommendations on things i can buy or things to do to make my setup alot easier..

when you say flush the system, do you mean you just run water thru it to get the water out that has been sitting prior to using it?
or
you flush the system by running water thru each part, after your done filtering water? lol

not trying to over complicate it at all, just trying to know exactly what other peeps do with their 50 gpd ro buddie so i can make mine last!

YEs, run the water for couple of minutes to get the water that was seating inside the filter.

ok cool, yeah i do that everytime before i use it already....just wanting to make sure we were on the same page! ya know, for $70 this RO unit has really held up and done a great job for me for almost a year now! of course id love to get a really nice unit, but money is always an issue so cant afford that right now! :(

As you can see, I installed the three way connector before the DI cartridge to get drinking water and also to flush the filter.

Hahahaha, yeah. I already have the replacement but I want to pull RODI water out of that cartridge until the TDS read 1.

Not sure I understand how that flushes the system. Doesn't the flush valve have to be on the waste water line, bypassing the flow restrictor? Isn't this just rerouting RO water?

Ya i have the ro buddy. Heres what i have had great success doing.
1. Unhook the backpressure valve
2. Turn on water supply and allow the system to flush without backpressure for a minute or two (note: water comes out of waste side at a high rate)
3. Shut off water supply and re attach the backpressure value
4. Unhook di canister from membrane
5. Turn on water and let it run for 20-30 min
6. Finally hook di back inline with water still running
7. Collect water

By doing this the ro buddy has lasted almost 6 months and my di is still only 1/3 used...

I do RODI water once a week and basically only need 10g so the filter is not use the whole week. First, I let the water run for a couple of minutes thru the bypass valve that I have hook to the water line before entering the filter and then I open the valve that let the water go to the filter. Then I let the water run for 3 to 5 min to run out any water left inside the filter and then either make drinking water ( reason why I got the three way valve ) or RODI. I got the RO Buddie system on June and the Di still producing 0 TDS.
