5017 controller “Pump on” stays lit?!

My ATO has been acting up. It is not working at all unless I unplug the power then plug it back in. When I do that, the following happens.

1. the pump turns on and starts filling my sump.
2. After about 30seconds it ramps down to no flow.
3. The controller continues to have the “pump on” lit. Even though the pump is off and the water level is good.

I cleaned the optical sensor in a vinegar/water mix but it didn’t seem to do anything.

Any suggestions?

Most likely the pump is bad, they usually last 2-3 years. The pump is a common spare part, 5000.020. If this is a much older controller, it can be that the circuit breaker is overloaded from corrosion of the wiring and generally pre 2009 units should just be replaced entirely.

Hmm. I bought the pump (replace a failed one) in sept 2019. Do you know how to look into warranty coverage?

The pump would have a 2 year warranty, provided we know the cause is not the controller, if you are sure the controller is the current design made since 2012, we can be pretty sure it is the pump. I just would need a copy of the receipt and photo of the date tag on the pump cord.
