Hi,

I was planning to use the 5050 UV LED strip sold on ebay or Amazon.
Spec is Wavelength:395-405nm. Is this spectrum enough to sterilize the water?

Next question would be if it needs to be submersed in water to sterilize vs. above it?
I would put in a tube and seal the ends with silicon.
How long does it need to be on for? Harmful to human eyes?

I am trying to get rid of mold in a freshwater fairy shrimp tank. There is a UV bulb sterilizer available
but it is super bright and says it cannot be used in the main tank.

I will try airline type filter first with matrix and poly to see if mold goes away, if not, will try UV.

That’s nowhere near being the right wavelength to kill algae or pathogens. That wavelength is to help grow things.

LEDs can not produce the right wavelength for this purpose. If a UV sterilizer is what you want, you need one from a reputable company.

UV sterilizers use UV-C which is between 100 and 280 nm. Most germicidal bulbs are in the 240-280 nm range.
