Hey y’all, I am looking for some suggestions on any interesting, showy, or “centerpiece” fish to round out my 50 gallon tank stocking. The tank is bare bottom, mixed reef, dimensions are 24x24x20 and the stocking so far is:

pair of mocha clowns
bicolor blenny
mystery wrasse

Looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks!

Doesn't Anthias need room to swim? A 24" square is not much.

I like splendid dottyback - they have a bad rep for being mean - but mine is great and a really good tankmate (was good in my 60 cube, and now my 120)- plus captive bred is common and they are active and always around.

I would go for something with a nice amount of colour but also a colour you may not see commonly in coral. This would be, blues and yellows IME. Pinks, beige, reds, greens are all common colours seen in coral so for a show piece fish, you wouldn’t really want one of those colours. You’d want something that would really pop - Starcki damsels get rather dull as they age.
I’d recommend:
- Cherub or African Flameback Angelfish
- Blue Reef Chromis
- Mauritian Coral Beauty Angelfish
- Resplendent Angelfish ($$$)

That’s just a start, there is more fish out there but they’re just some of them.

I would not put a dwarf angel in a 2' tank, unless it's a pygmy.

I like the starkii damsel suggestion.

I would call the mystery wrasse the showfish. It will get biggish and mean too.

Thank you all for the suggestions! Just got back from the LFS and I ended up going for the African Flameback Angel. I think it’ll be a great last fish for the tank!

Nice one! They’re beautiful and I’d love one just don’t have the tank for it - I’m waiting for a different fish in my 4’ tank and my nano is going to be home to a lot of the coral I can’t have in the 4’ tank due to a CBB, Wrasses and a Foxface.
